View Full Version : Theme song cut short on N@N?

I've seen some of the original eps of Cheers when it was on NBC, well on occasion anyhow. I don't remember hearing the "cut" version of the Cheers theme song when it was on NBC.

N@N was playing the whole theme song for a while there, but not anymore. So my question is: Was it originally aired that way so that SOME eps include a shorter theme song, or is N@N beginning to suck more and more? (keep in mind I've only seen SOME of the original NBC airings, so I don't really know).

Some of the episodes in the original run had the short open. But the great majority had the long open. Yes, N@N is starting to suck.

Oh, thanks for telling me. Yea, I think we all unanimously agree that N@N sucks.

The only times the short theme was used on NBC was during the last few seasons, and only very occasionally.

The short theme was used for Shelley Long's final episode, "I do, adieu".

i think its stupid to make a short theme out of any theme(for whatever reason, time, commericals, syndication, etc)

Doug
FYI-the short theme is a totally different recording than the other themes, and there were at least 3 differnet versions of that.(NBC/N@N, which is in a slightly lower tone; syndication seasons 1-3, and syndication seasons 4-11)

I like the short version because it doesn't take up as much time and I can see the next part of Cheers sooner, but the longer version makes more sense.

The short theme was not used for "I Do, Adieu" in its original NBC airing -- I have this on tape. When it was released on home video a few years later, though, they had substituted the shorter theme. Go figure.

Maybe "I do, Adieu" didn't have the short theme originally. But it did have the short theme on N@N during the uncut marathon.

I've figured out that there are episodes that N@N has to show with the long version. As far as I can figure out, there weren't any episodes in seasons 1-4 that originally had the short theme originally. So those short versions were made for syndication. Since N@N bought the original versions of all the episodes, the only short openings they can use are the ones that aired on NBC. So N@N has to show seasons 1-3, if not necessarily 4, with the long opening.
