Is it just me, or is Wings really underrated? Its such a witty, hilarious show yet I've never seen it recognized for that. A lot of people I talk to have never even heard of it.

Despite it being underrated, I'll always consider it one of my all time favorite sitcoms. Hopefully it'll be on DVD soon...

(sorry if there have been threads about this already, I'm too lazy to check back..)

It's VERY underrated. What ticks me off is that people like to make fun of "Wings". They laugh at it more than with it. It's number 3 on my best sitcoms list and I've watched many sitcoms in my day. "Wings" has a way of putting me in a better mood. I guess "Wings" will always be a cult classic.

Sounds like those are the same ones who hate Wings yet either say "I don't know why I hate it" or "I've never seen it, but I hate it" :rolleyes:

It is very underrated, it wil always live in Cheers' shadow unfortunately :(

Seems like all the shows I love are cult classics: Wings, Boy Meets World, Lois and Clark, etc........I love underrated shows :rock:

I love Wings, and I don't watch sitcoms at all anymore. Wings is witty, clever, and highly entertaining. Even when the plots are absurd, they work. And they work well.

Most of the stuff on TV today just pales in comparison with what was on when I was a kid in the late 50s/early 60s. They throw in way too many sex, cursing and body parts jokes that just aren't funny. Hogan's Heroes and McHale's Navy (for example) worked because WWII wasn't yet being taught in history books. It was still relevant to our lives. Get Smart was written by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry. It took place during the Cold War, and we appreciated the humor (same with Rocky & Bullwinkle) but we understood the reality of what was happening in the world. These shows were funny, but they were also intelligent, and they respected the ingelligence of their audience.

I love Britcoms because, despite their sex, cursing and body parts jokes, the Brits' jokes are way more clever. Monty Python and Blackadder are crass, but expect their audience to have a grasp of current events, as well as of history. US sitcoms don't do that anymore.

You bring up an excellent point.....Sometimes "Wings" had some of the SILLIEST plots going, but they DID work. There are some "Wings" episodes that are SO silly that if those particular plots were being done by any other sitcom, I would have turned off the TV halfway through the episode....but I stay with the "Wings" episode because the cast is doing such a beautiful job of pulling off the absurdity!

What I don't get is why I like this show so much, when I've never been a big "Cheers" fan. I know they're both made by the same people and all, but I never really got into "Cheers." But there's just something different about "Wings." I just hope, once they're done with "Cheers," they'll put "Wings" out on DVD!!!

Some people(critics) refer to Wings as Cheers 2, which makes no sense to me because the two shows are nothing alike, yeah they both are workplace comedies but that's about the only similarity between the two.

And don't get me started on N@N :cuss: I believe that the TVLAND Marathon on Fridays for Wings is bringing new viewers to the show :)

I love that ep! What did Helen's note to her parents say? Something about, "Joe thinks it's too long. He's afraid I'll trip on it going down the aisle"? (Because it was supposed to be pictures of her wedding dress)

That was funny because it was just such a "Brian" thing to do. It wasn't gratuitous. It made the plot work. If Lowell or Antonio (for example) had done it, it would have been ridiculous and gratuitous.

I also think Wings is such an under-rated show. I'd rather watch Wings than some other higher-rated, more popular shows out there. I actually prefer Wings to Cheers, although I think both shows are excellent.
