I remember TJ you mentioned that you were going to change the look of the boards. Is that still going to happen? I vaguely remember you mentioning December 27th, but wasn't completely sure.

You were right TJ made it an annoucement. I'm not sure what he has in mind, but the boards might look like this http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/

There is some beta testing going on currently, the plan is to upgrade them on Monday. It will probably take the whole day, maybe a day and a half.

That would look good, but right now the layout is fairly simple, and that seems alot different to the way it is now.

So the board will have a new look on Monday?

Well when I first upgraded to vBulletin 3 years ago, it was quite a bit more complicated then the previous Ultimate Bulletin Board. It might look a bit more complicated at first and will take some time to get used to it, but the pros far outweigh the cons.

You can try it out here, although this is not necessarily the final look of it:

Hmmmm not bad, that will take alot of getting used too, that's the type of layout that the Sandra Bullock boards have and I'm still getting used to it

I like the new look. I hope it's easy to get used to because I hate change.

I demoed the VB3 software before, and it's really nice. I think it will be a good change. :D

Me too. I'm really hoping he can have another vote. I have a feeling a lot of people won't want post counts to return. So....

I think posts counts can be good for at least a little while. I talked to TJ about this and for whatever reasons, newbies like post counts. It might get people to be more active. That is one of the things we are striving for. Me personally, and for alot of the "veterans" here, post totals don't matter. I think it might help to get more people involved. Yes, you will run into certain people who will only care for boosting their post counts. Overall, however, I think it will help with board activity.

Hm, OK.

I wonder... is there a hack of some sort that would let individual posters turn off viewing post counts? You know, like in the User CP, people have the option to disable sigs and avatars if they choose to...I am thinking of the same thing but for post counts.

Anybody that doesn't want their post total will probably be able to have it reset to 0 or a lower number.

Apparently I'm the only dork who likes the boards the way they are. Call me sentimental.

I sort of felt the same way until I saw some of the new features for members and mods alike of the most recent version of vBulletin. Trust me, when the boards are upgraded, you'll appreciate it.

Sounds good...I'd like that done to mine. :)

EDIT:

I'm familiar w/ the new format- the boards at stararchive.com (paysite for autograph collecting) have the same kind. I have a question about the attachments, will you be able to tweak them so we can post multiple attachments, or will there be a limited # of attachments we can post at once, or what? StarArchive limits 5/post.

Yeah, I'd like to reset my post count. :)

That's very true, personally if TJ does bring back post counts and someone is strictly trying to boost their post count with pointless posts, then they should be suspended, if they keep doing it, they get banned, that's how alot of boards do it, they considering trying to boost post counts as spamming the board.

It normally takes me awhile to appreciate a website's new set-up, but I think I'm going to like what we have here, especially the "views" button.

Since honesty is a main quality to look for in a trader tape, I like having the number of posts listed under the member's name because this does tell how a little bit about a person. Someone that's been a member for a year and only has a couple of posts makes me a bit nervous. :D
