Plot: Sam has no one to go to in his life. He has lost everything. Coach appears to him in a dream (yes, I know Nicholas Colasanto died, but oh well) and tells Sam to reopen the bar and it would solve his problems.

(The scene in an unfamiliar bar with some very familiar faces. We see Norm and Cliff sitting on the end of the bar, Woody serving the drinks behind the bar, and Sam almost asleep on the counter.)
Woody: Look, Sam, you need to go home. Get some rest. Maybe you'll actually be sober in the morning.
Sam: I don't need sleep, I need another drink.
Woody: No! Someone take this man home before he becomes a drunk again!
Sam: I am not becoming a drunk again.
Woody: You're right, you alreay are.
Sam: I can stop whenever I want to, but I want one more drink.
Woody: Sam, go home!
Sam: Fine... (he walks out of the door)

To keep the story going...

(Still in the bar)
Woody: Hey, Norm.
Norm: Yeah?
Woody: Do you know why Sam's drinking again?
Norm: Nope. Haven't got a clue.
Cliff: Well, it seems to me he is still not over Diane. This is what he did last time Diane disappeared.
Norm: Diane didn't disappear, she just stopped working around Sam for a while.
Woody: Yeah, but could Diane really set Sam off after 8 years?
Norm: You're right. I guess he must have seen that story in the paper.
Cliff: And what story is that, Norm?
Norm: Story says that Diane died in a car wreck. She was on her way to see the man she loved, and a truck pulled out in front of her.
Woody: Do you think that Sam thinks that Diane was on her way to see him?
Norm: What? You're confussing me now!
Cliff: He is saying that Diane was on her way to see Sam when she died.
Woody: Right, so Sam feels resposible for her death and is drinking because of it, right?
Norm: Sure, why not? If it makes you happy to think of it that way. (Stands up to walk out) Well, Verra and I are going out tonight, so I have to get home.
Cliff: Really, where are you going?
Norm: I dunno. Some fast food place.
(Norm leaves the bar)

(As Norm walks out, another familiar face walks in)
Carla: Hey everyone!
Everyone: Hey Carla.
Carla: You don't mind me bringing Lauren in here, do you Woody?
Woody: Nah, that's fine. As long as she doesn't drink!
Carla: She won't, her mom won't let her.
Woody: Good. So how is she doing anyway? She never talks to me when she comes in here.
Carla: Smart kid, huh? No, she's fine.
Cliff: I met a girl named Lauren in Flordia. Beautiful. Had blue eyes, brown hair, tall...
Carla: Let me guess, she was married.
Cliff: Oh, I must have told you about her.
Carla: Yeah, sure Cliff. So, did Sam go home early? He's normally here until closing.
Woody: I sent him home.
Carla: Oh, why?
Cliff: He was drinking too much. Norm said he must have read that add in the paper about Diane's death.
Carla: I know, isn't life wonderful?
Woody: Carla, that isn't very nice.
Carla: I know, but you people keep forgeting my motto. If you can't say anything nice, say it about Diane.
Woody: You haven't seen Diane in eight years, and now she's gone. You'll never see her again. What do you say to that?
Carla(sadly): Gee, I never thought of it that way. You know, I may have cracked on her every now and then, and she may have diserved some of them, but she was one of my friends. And I never got to tell her that, and if she heard it, it'd kill her, but she's already dead. (Let's out a little tear)
Cliff: Carla, are you crying?
Carla: No, Cliff, I've got something in my eye. Excuse me... (she runs to the bathroom)
Woody: Wow, she really did like Diane. I think tomorrow I am going to declare it Diane Chambers day at Boston's Pub for everyone who loved Diane.
Cliff: Should we tell Sam before tomorrow?
Woody: No! It will be a surprise to him too. Maybe it'll cheer him up.
Cliff: Wouldn't a party FOR Diane make him remember her even more?
Woody: I guess, but the party would cheer him up!
Cliff: Okay, Woody. Whatever you say.

Diane: Oh, Sam, how much more evidence do you need that we were not made in heaven? We turn into idiots in each other's company. The difference in your case is barely perceptable, but it's starting to bother me!

Sorry about the delay on the story...

(Back at Sam's apartment; Sam is sleeping on the sofa when "dream waves" come across the screen)
(Diane Chambers is sitting in a room with a lady dressed as a fortune teller)
Teller: I see a man, one from your past, who you loved very much.
Diane: Whom...
Teller: Don't correct me!
Diane: Sorry.
Teller: This man has a name, yes?
Diane: Most men do.
Teller: Do you know his name?
(Diane is silent)
Teller: I'll give you a hint... there are two names from your past: Frasier and... oh yes, Sam. You loved them both, but could never show your true feelings to either of them, could you?
Diane: How do you know all of this?
Teller: I'm a fortune teller.
Diane: And you're telling me my past!
Teller: Fine, I see in your future one of these men, the one you truly loved, thinking about you at this moment.
Diane: That helped a lot. Look, I'm going to go now. Here's your 5 dollars.
Teller: Can I give you some free advice?
Diane: Sure...
Teller: Go see this man. I can't tell you which one it is because I cannot see in your heart, but your heart knows which man is thinking of you.
(Diane leaves. A few moments later we hear a car crash and Diane screaming.)
(Sam, still asleep, flips over and another set of "dream waves" come over the screen.)
(This scene is Sam standing in the middle of a lavender room with smoke covering the floor to his knees. Diane walks in.)
Diane: Hello Sam.
Sam: Diane? But your dead.
Diane: Well, at least I know you read the newspaper today!
Sam: Come on, Diane. I read it yesterday too.
Diane: Sam, I am not here to see if you read the newspaper, I am here to give you some advice.
Sam: What kind of advice?
Diane: Well, on life.
Sam: Is this going to be a really long lecture?
Diane: No. Listen to me. (She grabs Sam's arms and looks him in the eyes) Do you remember the day I walked into Cheers?
Sam: Of course I do, Diane. You were with your professor and I thought you were the cutest little thing.
Diane: Thank you.
Sam: Your welcome.
Diane: When I came into Cheers, did it solve one of your biggest problems?
Sam: No, it added one, why?
Diane: Sam!
Sam: Okay, okay. Yes, one of my problems was solved. I had a cute new waitress, and a cute new girl to go after, and someone who opened my eyes to a new world.
Diane: Thank you, Sam. The point is that Cheers was a problem solver for you. You had your friends there, your life there.
Sam: And...?
Diane: I'm telling you to start Cheers again, and start your life over. It will solve one of your biggest problems yet again.
Sam: Nothing is going to bring you back.
Diane: That's your biggest problem?
Sam: No... no!
Diane: I heard you say it! And believe me, I've heard you say a lot of things about you loving me, but never saying it.
Sam: Like when Darek was around?
Diane: Exactly.
Sam: Fine, Diane... your death is the hardest thing I have had to face in my lifetime. It's harder than my career, harder than my drinking, harder than you leaving me, because this is real.
Diane: Begin Cheers again, Sam. Good things will happen.
Voice: Diane?
Diane: I have to go. Just follow my words...
Sam: But, Diane...
(Sam wakes up to the phone ringing)
Sam: Hello? This is who? Rebecca? It's 2'o clock in the morning. Fine, on over. This better be good.
(Sam hangs up the phone and the scene fades)
