At least that's what IMDB says. Now, I know that IMDB isn't always accurate, but usually, dates for TV shows are. How come there hasn't been an announcment?

No formal announcement yet, but Alexis Bledel said in Teen Vogue that this is most likely the last season.

I really hope that is not true. There are many shows that I feel should not end when they do, but Gilmore Girls has been reborn this season and is better than ever. Ending after this season would be a travesty.

On the other hand, if the producers and writers think they can wrap everything up, and I mean everything, then perhaps ending it after this season would not be too bad.

i will have to throw a wake for it if it goes away after this season

I think ending it now would be a bad move. GG seems to have found a new life thanks to ABCFamily (I know thats how I started watching)

Yeah, wouldn't the WB be talking up this season as the "last season" of the show?

"Friends" did a countdown from the season premiere of thier final season.

Personally, I hope they stick around for another year. The show is still great.

TJL, that's what I was thinking... I mean, if this really was the last season there would be some big WOO-RAA about this season being it... I don't think it's going to be a "ohh. and by the way, that was the last new episode you will ever see"

Well for Sabrina the Teenage Witch, season 7 wasn't expected to be the last. The WB only announced it was cancelled a week before the series finale. So its still possible this year is the last

I hope they don't do that to that.

Gilmore Girls, along with 7th Heaven and recently Everwood, has earned the WB a lot of praise for showing quality family friendly drama, not just teen soap operas. It would be a shame if they just let the show go quietly after the season is over.

I agree, also it seems unfair to the fans to give absolutely no warning that the show is cancelled

That's what Lifetime did with "The Division." They announced it, after they had shown the series finale, which totally sucked.
I agree with everyone- Gilmore Girls should NOT be taken off the air this year. I think Luke and Lorelai's relationship has made things more interesting and the fact that Rory, for the first time, is not in a long-term relationship, also makes it more interesting.
If they do decide to end it, which I'm hoping will not happen, hopefully they'll end it off with Luke and Lorelai's wedding. :) (They are NOT breaking up next week- it can't happen.)

Well, it looks like Season Six is a go. From eonline.com:

Gilmore Goodness: The best news from the Froggie bash was that all Gilmore Girls stars in attendance told me the show, currently in season five and about to celebrate that magical 100th episode this Tuesday, is all systems go for another season. "I'd say there's a damn good chance six is happening," Edward Herrmann (grandpa Gilmore) told me.

"That is the plan we've heard. As for whether it goes to the full seven--Lauren and Alexis have seven-year contracts--I suspect it will, if the ratings are anything like they are this season."

Now, you fans caught that, right? Lauren Graham (Lorelai) and Alexis Bledel (Rory) are committed to the series for two more seasons, so Alexis wanted to make something perfectly clear: "They always make it seem like the actors have something to do with that, with how long the show goes on, but they don't," she explained. "We have no control, ever. My So-Called Life did not end because Claire Danes didn't want to do it anymore. It ended for some other reason." Lauren also chimed in, thanking Alexis for that reference from "the late '80s" just before fessing up to the fact that she borrowed Alexis' So-Called DVD and still hasn't returned it! Check back for their adorable real-life interaction in an upcoming video clip.

So it seems, faithful tubers, we have little need to worry about the fate of Gilmore Girls for the time being. The actors are on board, the ratings are strong, and the consensus at the Television Critics Association Press Tour is that the show is better than ever. "We're having a great time, and I'm glad people are enjoying this season," Lauren said. "But can I ask why? Is it because so many people are making out?"

This season has been incredible, one of the show's best. Another season like this, and perhaps another after that? More than I can ask for, but maybe not as much as I can hope for, eh?

I doubt this is the last season. The ratings are still good and even the critical aclaim is back following last season.. The only veteran wb series I heard that might end is Charmed.

Wahoo! Before reading this thread I hadn't even thought about the show being canceled. It seems like shows don't last as long as they used to. Cheers went on for something like eleven years and Roseanne nine. Why can't good shows go on for a decade or so?

It needs to last at least two more years. By my figuring that is how long it would take for Rory to graduate from Yale (although maybe she already has, I don't watch the new ones).

If Alexis and Lauren are under contract for two more seasons, then that should be long enough for Rory to graduate from Yale, which would be a fitting end to the series.

Well, some Star Trek fans are taking up a collection to keep "Enterprise" from being cancelled; maybe we can start raising funds to keep Gilmore Girls on the air longer.

We could have a bake sale!

Kindly forward all "organic" brownies to the Chairman of the Gilmore Girls Bake Sale Carnival for sampling.

By the way, I took a vote earlier and nominated myself Chairman.
