Cheers recently left the WB. Does anyone know if it will be on Nick at Nite or any other stations anytime soon?-Dave

Oct. 2001 on Nick-at-Nite. I think I read Nick-at-Nite spent something like 75 million dollars to air it!

You Canadians are so danged lucky! You've got a better sci-fi channel than we do, too! Looks like it's time to round up the troops and invade Ontario...

I wish they would have used the money to renew the contract for "The Wonder Years." http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif

Come to think of it, I should have said "Perfect Strangers" in place of "The Wonder Years" since TWY moved to TNN and is on *twice a day* and no network airs PS that I'm aware of.

Haha! Yes we are! I love Prime (the channel that Heather mentioned, that plays so many old sitcoms). But I didn't realize that Space was also better than the Sci Fi Channel? That surprises me... I love the Space channel, I wonder what we are getting up here that you guys don't get on the Sci Fi channel?

Actually since Nick at Nite and TNN are both owned by Viacom (CBS), All they did was a station swap with the Wonder Years, Taxi and Newhart.

James!

Oh, I see. Actually, when TNN first started showing these great sitcom classics, I kept checking the schedule for Perfect Strangers. I *know* it belongs somewhere--if not TNN, then TVLand or N@N for sure!

I havent watched Cheers in a long time but it certainly has a soft spot in my heart. Most kids first memories are sitting in a playpen or watching sesame street. Mine is watrching some episode of Cheers! I dont watch the show much anymore but it was an ep. w/ a scene in which one of the characters is running around w/ scissors.

I like Cheers, but it is still way too soon for N@N. I think it should be on TBS alongside Cosby etc.. right now. The show started 19 years ago, but it ran until 1993. And the spinoff (Frasier) is STILL a highly rated series that was recently renewed for 2-3 more seasons.

Cheers is a great show and is worthy for N@N. But I think they should wait a bit longer until the show is more of a distant memory. Same goes with Roseanne, which is coming to Nick in a few years. I think shows should have a mandatory 12-15 years since the final episode before Nick getting them. Like the timing for Family Ties (which is also coming in the fall, and premiered the same time Cheers did in 1982) is a lot better. As the show has been off since 1989, and it's been relegated to early morning reruns on the likes of TBS.

I was just like that(have memories of Cheers when i was a baby). i remember one scene where Sam is talking to people at the bar, then he trips and falls. did i make this up in my mind or something or is this in a real episdoe? i think he had a mop, and i think there were 3 people he was talking to.

and i remember the first few notes of the opening theme, but thats all.

weird, huh?

I'm only 15 and I love Cheers! My friends kept telling me to watch it, and they wouldn't tell me why. Well, turns out I'm a character. My name is really Diane Chambers! Anyway, I've watched it, and loved it ever since. Plus, Shelley Long has always been one of my favorite actresses since I saw her in "Troop Beverly Hills" and maybe in "Susie Q". And Cheers was not overrated... hey, it did last 11 years!

Love always,
Diane Chambers

I don't think Cheers is over-rated at all. It's one of my favorites and I'm glad to see it on Nick at Nite.

Same here!!! I'm so glad it's back on!!! Cheers was to the 80's what Friends is to us now. The best sitcom of the 80's was Cheers, hands down. I liked Cosby, but it was too focused on children (I love children, however) which was fine and dandy, but Cheers gave the over 30 bunch some funny, funny entertainment. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

 I am so glad that NAN picked Cheers up. I think it was well worth the 75 million. I think that before NAN picked up Cheers, it was going downhill. I think that by picking up Cheers and even Family Ties, NAN kick started it's engine again. I think that NAN goes through phases. If you notice, when it first began, it aired alot of sitcoms from the 50s, like Lucy, LITB, I think it aired Superman. Then it went into the 60s, and aired shows like Andy and Dick Van Dyke. Then the 70s, when it had shows like MTM and Gilligan and so on. It still has shows from the 70s, but I think it's main focus now is the 80s. Last year, they had Facts of Life and Different Strokes (Is that still on there), and now Cheers and Family Ties. Personally, I love what they are doing now with the network. These shows are more nostalgia for me than the other NAN eras. I am in love with NAN for airing Cheers. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! I just hope they don't mess up Cheers the way they messed up FOL. But that's okay, that is why I tape all the eps. ;)
