I understand that N@N has to cut out scenes to make room for commercials. I have accepted that but doesn't it seem like N@N cuts out the most comical scenes? I just don't understand why that they do that. I have been watching Fresh Prince every night and the editing has been horrible. Taking away all the humor out the show. Does anyone feel N@N does this with any other show?

Um, it's not just N@N. Every show in syndication has a few minutes cut out to make room for more commercials. It's not even the network that cuts it out - it's the production/distribution company who sends them "syndicated cuts."

This is why everyone was pissed about ALF: Season 1 - they released the syndicated versions of episodes and not the original, full versions.

Well why are the local airings of Fresh Prince edited in a different way?

I've told you this before ... Nick@Nite/TV Land do not operate the way locals and most other cable networks do. They get the masters from the distributors, and make their edits themselves, rather than getting the syndicated edited copies. It's actually good, because if you put the locals and Nick@Nite/TV Land versions together, you can get scenes you would not have seen. And the syndicated versions do not have the full original themes usually.

Ok so slackermonkey was wrong. N@N do make their own cuts which brings me back to my question. Why do they cut out the funniest scenes? Pav they are destroying the fuuny scenes of FP-lol. I just don't understand their editing.

I don't think their cuts are the best, but not as terrible as ABC Family and some other networks are. I have never noticed them cutting the really funny stuff from FP. I mostly watch FP on the N anyways.

I thought you were talking about syndication in general and were using N@N as an example. I was right about local station syndication.

I did not know that N@N/TV Land was the exception to the rule, though. My bad.

I don't have Noggin/The N, but I think they show their shows unedited -- or atleast they used to. If not, then they would have the same edits as Nick@Nite, because The N is a Viacom network.

:eek: Really? I had the feeling that some of the episodes I watched on The N seemed different than when I watched them on N@N but since I haven't watched FP on N@N for awhile I just passed that thought off.

I think they are uncut now that I think about it.

They do it with every show. Almost every episode of Family Matters from 1992-1998 had scenes during the closing credits but they cut them out. :wallbang

I think Boy Meets World is the only show they don't do that with.

If this is indeed true, I really need to start watching Roseanne on my Fox local to check for new jokes/scenes.

As for ABC Family, I really don't like watching many sitcoms on there due to their annoying editing. I have a feeling they cut the tags from 3rd Rock from the Sun episodes that have them. :-/

The N and Nick at Nite are both owned by Viacom. So I think the edits are the same for Fresh Prince.

But I have noticed that Fresh Prince has more scences edited out on Nick at Nite than in syndication.

I also like how the N@N/TV Land versions of Cheers do not have a commercial break after the theme song. It segues immediately into the first scene instead.

Hmmm they seemed way different to me. I'm gonna have to tape from both networks sometime and see if there's a difference or not :)
