View Full Version : Sad NFL News to Report: Reggie White, dies of a heart attack at the age of 43 TVFactFan 12-26-2004, 12:24 PM Very Sad news this morning in the NFL world. I grew up watching him play for the Eagles and this is very shocking news. RIP Reggie. Mr. Television 12-26-2004, 12:37 PM OMG. This is terrible news. R.I.P. Reggie.:( Janice 12-26-2004, 12:37 PM http://espn.go.com/classic/obit/s/2004/1226/1953400.html White dies Sunday morning Former NFL star Reggie White has died after suffering a massive heart attack Sunday morning at his home near Huntersville, N.C., ESPN's Chris Mortensen has learned. The former Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end, a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame who retired as the NFL's all-time sacks leader in 2000, turned 43 on Dec. 19. "Today our beloved husband, father and friend passed away," White's wife, Sara, said through a family pastor. "His family appreciates your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of Reggie White. We want to thank you in advance for honoring our privacy." Nicknamed "The Minister of Defense," White had 198 career sacks with the Eagles (1985-92), Packers (1993-98) and Carolina Panthers (2000). White went to two Super Bowls with Green Bay, winning a ring after the 1996 season. Eric Allen wrapped up his Sunday chat on ESPN.com with a few words about his former teammate. "You probably know we were teammates from 1988-1992," Allen said. "What you probably don't know is he was probably the biggest influence on me from the time I stepped foot into Philadelphia until now. More so off the field than on. We continued to stay in touch throughout my 17 years since being a rookie in Philadelphia, and I have a great amount of love for him and his family. So like he would do, please say a prayer for him and his family." Brent88 12-26-2004, 12:44 PM :eek2: Seinatra 12-26-2004, 01:09 PM RIP # 92. Brian Damage 12-26-2004, 03:04 PM What a shock! MissZero 12-26-2004, 03:06 PM may he rest in peace :( snl75 12-26-2004, 04:33 PM thats sad i liked him too Sid 12-26-2004, 07:24 PM Reggie White, was only 43 years old. This is a tragedy, and I hate to say this but it wouldn't surprise me if some type of steroid or other performance enhancing drug may play a part in this. I'm not saying he was using recently, his system was probably weakened by abuse from his playing days. I mean, what other reason is there for a man of 43 to drop dead? I think it was said on ESPNEWS that his wife said Reggie had sleep apnea that caused respirtory problems that led to his death. I think i spelled both medical terms wrong bTw EricIdlefan 12-26-2004, 07:50 PM You think that since he was an athlete he would be the picture of health. But also he made such an impact off the field than on for me that I admired him even more. RIP Reggie White 12/19/61-12/26/04. |
