How many of you S&S fans think the earlier episodes were A LOT funnier when Lamont "acted" more like a disgruntled junkman? He dressed like a junkman, but had aspirations of doing something else. He also wasn't "perfect" and screamed and yelled alot at Fred in the earlier episodes. They both had their faults, but you knew DEEP DOWN they cared about each other. Later in the series, I think they tried to make Lamont a "total straight man" to Fred's antics. ALWAYS a voice of calm and reason(irritatingly so). But this seemed to dull the show down. I LOVED when Lamont GOT MAD and they both screamed at each other(usually behind the kitchen door, then came out smiling!) I LMAO. As they went on, though, Fred remained funny, but they gave no real character to Lamont. He became too soft, too calm, too laid back. This made the show alot less funny and much less entertaining. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE ALL the episodes and am definitely getting Season 6, but I just think this is really where the show went wrong. It wasn't just Sanford, it was Sanford and Son, and both characters could be hilarious together if they'd left Lamont's character alone. Check out Lamont in the first 2 seasons, then watch his character in Season 5. Oh, well Just My Opinion.

I think ths show was at it's best from mid season 2 to the mid season 5. Season 1 and the last half of season 5 along with season 6 was YUCKO-LOL

Actually I LOVE Season 1, but I have to agree with you about 5 and 6. The good episodes start getting fewer and farther between. I hated the ones where Lamont is engaged to Janet. They seemed sooo dull. Oh, well . . . At least we had Redd.
Redd Foxx was and IS the best!!!

I love them all, but I agree the early episodes were the funniest. Ever since Lamont lost his afro, his character change with it.

I think all the episodes are good until Grady takes over and when Fred comes back the show goes down the toilet. JMO!
