One thing that I really liked about Fred Sanford was his childlike innocence. sure sometimes he was mean and rude to people but he had a kinder childlike innocence about him. he loved reading the cartoon section of the newspaper and watching cartoons and kids tv shows instead of the news. like in the Grady The Star Boarder episode. when they both go into the living room to watch tv in the morning. Grady says turn on the news Fred and Fred tells he dont wanna watch no news early in the morning. and tells Grady he has a choice of 3 Captain Kangaroo Deputy Dawg or Huckleberry Hound LMAO

There was another episode where he was watching and imitating Popeye. But yeah, he was harmless with his childhood innocence.

How about after he broke up Grady and Dolly, he called her Deputy Dog refering to the old cartoon

And he always said he LOVED surprises, but ALWAYS tried to peek at his gifts. He was a child at heart and a truly WONDERFUL character. No one but Redd Foxx could've played him.

How about when he knew Lamont was getting him a present (the FS ring)? He was very childlike with his excitement.

Fred: "Lamont, what is this?

Lamont: "It's a papaya.

Fred: "A papaya? Where's my pap-present?!!"
