Who was your favorite Arnold's diner owner: Arnold (played by Pat Morita) or Al (played by Al Molinaro)?

I like Al better because he is not as grouchy as Arnold. He is funny too. Arnold was still good he just wasn't really funny and didn't add much to the show.

No doubt. Al was miles ahead. The T is right. Arnold did not really add much. Al is funnier and the crouched shoulders, the funny nose and the "good ol' man" look is a deadly combination all right.

But Arnold was so cool! The way he taught Fonzie all those martial arts (Wax on, Wax off), and beat up the bad karate instructor when Richie was in trouble? That was great!

Oh, wait...

Never mind. I mixed the characters in my head again. Sorry!

I did indeed like Arnld better, because I thought he was a much better "supporting" character. He was a good piece of sceenery, and that was all he was. He was a backdrop on which the real stars of the show could shine. Then the show started getting complicated when they started making all the background supporting characters into main characters; Al, Chachi, Mrs. Arcola, Jenny Piccalo... All where supporting characters that for some weird reason got starring roles! IMHO, The show should have always stayed focused on the main 4 characters; Richie, Ralph, Potzie, and Fonzie.

I totally agree about the supporting characters thing. I mean did you notice that alot of the eps lately have been like totally focused on Joanie? And I personally could live without her. They should have stayed focused on fonz and Richie totally. Oh well.

I hapend to think that Arnold was the best. He has always been my favorite. Even though Al was good too, Arnold was the best actor for the part.

Comparing Al and Arnold is like comparing Apples to Oranges. I like Arnold because he played an Asian who was accepted by all which in the 50's would have been hard. He was nice and funny!

Al played the Italian minority who fit into the fifties easier. You have to remember Arnold(Pat Morita) left the show to try his own sitcom called Mr. T and Tina. It flopped and there really wasn't room for Arnold to come back after Al had taken over. Al isn't as funny! The most they did with his character was made fun of what he looked like and his disfigurement! And once in awhile he talked about Rosa Colleti! Real funny! Not!

They are both totally different people and arent compared well. So lets just not compare them.

I think I like Al better, because he comes across as being very human. I mean, he was the same age as Howard, but never married, & he couldn't ever forget Rosa Coletti!

Burlesque quote:
Howard: How's married life treating you?

Al: not so good, I saw my wife on a sofa with another man, but that's not gonna happen again.

Howard: it's not?

Al: No, I sold the sofa. What the hey!
