View Full Version : My "Last Chapter" at SO
Malone Petrie 12-20-2004, 01:07 PM Hi everyone! This is Kurt.... formerly Petrie Malone, but for some reason I am unable to post under that username.
Today is my one year anniversary with Sitcoms Online and more specifically the TDVDS forum, here. However, there is little reason to celebrate. I have decided to leave SO because of the strict censorship some moderators are enforcing, which I strongly disagree with.
It has been a pleasure meeting and getting to know all of you over the past year, and I will miss talking with all of you. But I need to leave to stand up for my beliefs. I will still check out Carrie's TDVDS website (maybe more frequently now since I am leaving here) and maybe I'll even "lurk" around SO for a little while, too.
I have a few more farewells to say before I offically, but I imagine by the end of the day I will be banned. If you want to talk to me, email me at: kurtk22@hotmail.com or on AIM at: kfk not kkk
Long live The Dick Van Dyke Show,
Kurt
Strong censorship?? What a joke... You are just a 15 year old kid, grow up. You are hanging with the wrong crowd. I know you were led into posting something you knew wasn't right. Get your own beliefs - and stop being a follower. There was a thread about wishing troops a Merry Christmas and you come along and post this:
And Happy Ramadan to those they kill!

Here's another one of your gems for anyone who wants to know who they are dealing with:

moron. i don't know who you are
but, based on a comment like that, and the
fact that you're 15, i can only imagine that
these boards will be better off without you.
lo0k us up in fifteen years when you form your
own opinion about current events and can have
an adult conversation.
SawgrassSteve 12-20-2004, 04:27 PM Well BigBadBrady,
Let's not get into name calling or harsh judging. Not that Kurt shouldn't go; this just isn't the kind of board he'd be comfortable on. But I've been 15 before, and so have you. As I recall, it's sometimes wasn't so clear that there is a time and a place for everything.
Let's also not forget that there are people out there across the spectrum that are making big bucks giving their 'opinions' in the meanest manner they can muster, and fully grown adults have a hard time not falling prey to their rhetoric and joining in. It's our national misfortune, at the moment.
Kurt, study.
Read, listen, watch, deliberate, debate, protest and vote. But when you find a peaceful, friendly place to relax and have fun, like here on Sitcoms Online, just enjoy it. See you around. :)
Steve
BigBadBrady 12-21-2004, 01:13 AM aww man now you come off as the nice guy! ;)
that was just a nicer way of saying what i had in mind.
btw, not trying to kiss anyone's butt here, but kudos
to tj for the basic rules you try to follow as an admin.
nice to have a forum or two that is still family friendly.
*thumbs up*
Censorship? Hey, this is another vote of thanks for the moderator. How refreshing to come to a board you don't have to wince through. Applause!

Amen. I've been without a computer for a week now. Major hard drive crash. My new computer arrived today. Should be set up in a day or two. Meantime, I'm at the library checking out my favorite sites. I'm sorry about what's going on with Kurt but I do agree that we must have standards. I've enjoyed this board because we can have respectful discussions and I appreciate that.

I belong to a Donald O'Connor site (love the man!), and one member tried to make things political during the election...we politely reminded him that the board was apolitical, he graciously bowed to that, and we discussed our mutual love of Donald and Gene Kelly sans nasty partisanship.
Not everything has to have political overtones.
Incidentally...MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone! God bless you in the New Year, too!
Petrie Malone 12-23-2004, 06:08 PM I don't mean to "cry wolf" by posting after I already announced I was leaving, but there are some things I needed to clarify about my last post that were misinterpreted.
BigBadBrady (and to anyone else who misread it),
I posted the "Happy Ramadan" comment as a joke (although not taken as one). I knew the reprecussions I would be facing by posting it, but did it as a satirical way of saying, "Hey! The US aren't the only people in the Middle East soon to be celebrating a holiday!" This isn't the first time my humor has gotten me in trouble, and I doubt it will be my last... but that's what makes a good comedy writer! ;) Also, I want you guys to know that I am not some ignorant teenager; I am very much aware of what is going on in the news.
Lolac and Nora,
You're right. I have ABSOLUTELY no right to complain about the censorship on my "Ramadan" comment. And I wasn't for the most part. I was talking about the censorship on some of my friends' other posts. And to tell you the truth, "censorship" is not the major reason I'm leaving SO. Most of my friends from SO have moved to another message board, making SO a lot quieter. With it being so quiet, I, too, decided to leave.
You two also mentioned about having rules and standards. I agree with you here, there ALWAYS needs to be rules- especially on an internet forum. With all due respect, I disagree with SO's rules, which is why I have moved to another forum whose rules I agree with. (And yes, this other board does allow political discussions... but all the members are mature enough to respect each others' opinions, even when we do differ.) By the way Lolac, I hope you get your computer up and running soon!
And lastly... Steve,
I want to thank you for defending my point even though I was acting childish. You are a very well spoken person and were always my favorite poster at this site. (Since I'm leaving there's really no harm in saying that!) I have a lot of respect for you.
Maybe I'll come back in a few months to post again... we'll see. I really hope this post helps you think of me in a better light. That last post was just pure anger, and I sincerly apologize. (I also apologize for this post being so lengthy!) Also, admist our disagreement in this thread, I hope you noticed that I titled this thread "My Last Chapter" because TDVDS's last episode was "The Last Chapter."
Well, good bye everyone, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Kurt

SpunkiiMonkii7078 12-30-2004, 10:01 PM Hey everybody. Hope you all had a GREAT Christmas, and a good start to finish in 2005. As you can see, I have not posted for a while, I still have my 'Merry Christmas' icon up. I would really like someone to explain what happened while I was gone! I may not understand since I'm only 12, but everybody was once 12 and didn't understand some things. I give my sorrow or luck (which ever is most nessesary) to whoever needs it, I don't know. LOL. Thank you in advance to whoever answers this!
