CLEVELAND CLINIC DEBATES WHETHER TO KEEP GOLDEN ARCHES

Hospital's New CEO Wants to Order McDonald's -- To Go

CLEVELAND -- the Cleveland Clinic is a superstar in the world of heart health. Year after year, the hospital is rated No. 1.

But there's a McDonald's in the middle of the heart center, and the new chief executive officer and world-renowned heart surgeon is wondering why, reported WEWS-TV in Cleveland.

Dr. Toby Cosgrove said the fast-food joint doesn't belong there. He wouldn't go on camera saying it, but Cosgrove has reportedly told his employees that he wants to evict the Golden Arches, the television station reported.

Officials at the Cleveland Clinic are meeting Thursday afternoon with McDonald's representatives over whether the fast-food restruant belongs in the hospital. It's been part ofthe clinic's food court for the past 10 years.

Cosgrove has already closed a Pizza Hut that was located in the hospital. He also knows what too many Big Macs can do to a person.

But not all the clinic's patients and visitors agree with the move.

"You know, I really don't think that matters. I think it's a person's own decision what they want to do," one patient said.

McDonald's wants to save its franchise at the clinic. Fattening fries aren't the only thing you can get at McDonald's. There are healthier choices, the television station reported.

"Other hospitals' restruants are cafeteria-style, and they're got their own version of fast food, so I don't think McDonald's is any worse than other versions of fast food," said Don Graf, who was visiting the hospital.

You can buy burgers and fries in the clinic's cafeteria, but that is reportedly gonig to change. Cosgrove wants to give the cafeteria a complete makeover, too.

"A lot of kids may not want to eat that type of food at the cafeteria, and a Big Mac goes a long way with a kid," said Michael Oliver, a parent.
