About The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp:

Debuting on Sept. 6, 1955, "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" was the first adult western on television beating out "Gunsmoke" for that distinction by four days. Of the two series, "Wyatt Earp" was more upbeat and fast-paced, airing for its entire six-year run on ABC on Tuesday nights.
It featured Hugh O'Brien as the legendary marshal, first in Ellsworth, Kansas, then in Dodge City, Kansas, and finally in Tombstone, Arizona. The series emphasized the interrelations of the characters, and the plots involved character development and politics as often as they did action. The series, if it did not portray Earp's life with the utmost accuracy, at least paid lip service to history, and the series ended with the infamous gunfight at the O. K. Corral.

2.) is TV Land getting the episodes from the TNN/Spike TV contract (meaning that it was more than 4 years long)?
3.) did Viacom renew the contract for Miami Vice?

Regardless, I think its cool for them to air a Miami Vice marathon to coincide with the DVD release.

Additionally, it is nice to see TV Land expanding their westerns collection with Wyatt Earp.

I think #1 is the most possible answer for this event. I'm not sure if the TNN/Spike contract is still even in effect.

Western Premieres on Saturday, February 5 at 3pm



Santa Monica, CA, January 25, 2005 – TV Land goes back to the wild, wild west when it adds the classic western, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, to its roster of hit programming. The show stars Hugh O’Brian as the courageous lead character and will premiere on TV Land on Saturday February 5 at 3pm (ET/PT). The series will air as part of the network’s weekend Western block from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., which also features Bonanza and Gunsmoke.



“The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp is truly a classic American series,” states Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land and Nick at Nite. “The weekly adventures of Marshall Wyatt Earp and his fame and glory have made this a timeless series now and for years to come.”



The show is being licensed exclusively to TV Land by Kate Edelman Johnson, daughter of the late Louis F. Edelman, who created and produced the series in 1954. Airing from 1955 to 1961, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp was the first adult western on television, beating out Gunsmoke for that distinction by four days. Of the two series, Wyatt Earp was more upbeat and fast-paced, airing for its entire six-year run on ABC on Tuesday nights.



It featured Hugh O'Brien as the legendary marshall, first in Ellsworth, Kansas, then in Dodge City, Kansas, and finally in Tombstone, Arizona. Using the power of his sidekicks as well as his pistols, Earp continually maintained the law. The series, which is based loosely on fact, emphasized the interrelations of the characters and the plots involved character development and politics as often as they did action. The series ended with the infamous gunfight at the O. K. Corral. During its seven-year run, Wyatt Earp always placed in the top 10 television shows in the nation.



Hugh O’Brian also starred in the action series, Search from 1972-73. He starred on Broadway in Destry Rides Again, First Love, and in the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls. He also starred in the national company of Cactus Flower, The Odd Couple, The Tender Trap, A Thousand Clowns, and Plaza Suite. Other credits include The Shootist, Killer Force, Game of Death, Twins, and numerous appearances on Fantasy Island, Love Boat, the T.V. series Paradise, Gunsmoke II, Murder, She Wrote, L.A. Law, and a Kenny Rogers Gambler IV movie, The Luck of the Draw: The Gambler Returns. Wyatt Earp: Return to Tombstone was O'Brian's latest film project.



After spending nine inspirational days with the great humanitarian Dr. Albert Schweitzer at his clinic in Africa where he learned that "the most important thing in education is to teach young people to think for themselves,” he formed the Hugh O' Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY). Its format for motivation is simple: bring a select group of high school sophomores with demonstrated leadership abilities together with a group of distinguished leaders in business, education, government and the professions, and let the two interact. Using a question-and-answer format, the young people selected annually by over 14,500 public and private high school to attend a HOBY Leadership Seminar held each spring in their state get a realistic look at what makes America's Incentive System work, thus better enabling them "to think for themselves." HOBY is a non-profit organization and is funded solely through the private sector. O’Brian resides in Beverly Hills, CA.

Actress Kim Fields Directs Vignettes Premiering on Tuesday, February 1



Santa Monica, CA, January 31, 2005 – TV Land and Nick at Nite will celebrate Black History Month throughout February by airing a series of interstitial spots entitled “Black History, Our History” beginning Tuesday, February 1. The vignettes, directed by Kim Fields (The Facts of Life, Living Single), were written and performed by Fields and poets and reflect fervently upon the history of television as it relates specifically to the black experience. The spots will air throughout the month on both networks as well as on tvland.com and nickatnite.com. In addition, the networks’ websites will have an original interview with Kim Fields in which she reflects upon her experience and her enthusiasm for the project.



“We are very proud of the deep and meaningful work that Kim and these talented poets brought to life for our TV Land and Nick at Nite viewers.” states Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land and Nick at Nite. “Our celebration of Black History Month with this interstitial series talks to the African American experience as portrayed on television over the years in a frank, honest and thought-provoking manner.”



In addition to Fields, TV Land and Nick at Nite commissioned four poets -- Beau Sia, D. Cross, Thea Monyee and Jon Goode -- to perform original poems about African American images on television. The results were poems with topics ranging from lighthearted reflections to controversial testimonies and commentary concerning the impact of African Americans on television throughout history. Areas touched upon in the performances include everything from fond memories of watching Fat Albert, The Jeffersons and Sanford and Son to the impact that television had on the Civil Rights Movement as it exposed America to the brutality of events happening in small towns which, in turn, led to national support and momentum for change. In addition to directing the series, Kim Fields also performs her own original piece which deals with growing up in front of the camera and becoming an inadvertent role model.



Kim Fields started out in show business by doing commercials and starring in the memorable ad for Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup. She went on to star as “Tootie” on The Facts of Life and then as “Regine” in Living Single. In addition to her notoriety as an actress, Ms. Fields is an accomplished writer, producer and director.
