I have a couple questions about a few vague memories and hope some posters can help. I DID do a ten-pages back title search , but there are so many annoyingly vague thread titles like "Do You Remember This Case" that gives no clue as to the subject matter inside, I gave up.

So, memories of cases -- if you can give me a searchable name, I can do the real work.

1. Was there a case about two murders across the country from each other at the same approximate time which ballistics proved to be from the same gun, thus making it IMPOSSIBLE?

2. Human bones found on some island off California frequented by the wealthy?

3. Black soldier befriends little German boy in WWII?

4. WWII soldiers (Tank Battalion?) give Jewish boy candy and change his life forever?

5. Nasty redneck couple in a swamp murder girl and her married boyfriend (1950s, maybe)?

Thanks.

Great site. Glad I found it. God, I'm glad that Mia Zapata's murderers have been found and sentenced. I ached for that young lady when I first saw this case years ago. Though I wouldn't say her music was my cup of tea, I ached for the lost talent, the lost vitality, the loss of a fellow human being with so much ahead of her. I hope her killers suffer for eternity.

The only one I can help you out with are the lovers that were attacked in the swamps. It did happen in the 1950's and the married boyfriend was killed and they never found the girl. His name was Thomas Houtard (I think he was from LaPlace, LA) and her name was Audrey Moate. Hope this helps! If you want to know any other details on this case (like the name of the redneck couple) let me know. I have this on tape so I can look them up if need be.

Well, #2 is the case of Dr. Carey Stanton who owned 90% of Santa Cruz Island (right off the coast of Santa Barbara, California). When he died in 1987 the unidentified bones of a woman were found in a shed. It seemed odd because Dr. Stanton was notoriously organized and labeled everything. (I also remember he always served his guests the same dessert: oatmeal cookies:lol: )

I could be wrong but #1 sounds like the Morris Davis case. He was the pizza delivery man murdered in Montana. The gun did not kill two people at one time but apparantly it was safely hidden in a Washington state house at the time of the murder. According to the gun owner it was stolen years later and somehow it miraculously turned up at a pawn shop just miles away from where Morris was killed. Apparently the gun owner's story is believed by police, therefore the gun must have walked to Montana itself, killed Morris, then walked back to WA where it waited to be stolen...or it was in two places at once!
