Wash. Preschoolers Given Dog Food to Eat

Fri Dec 10,11:02 PM ET

TACOMA, Wash. - A teaching assistant gave some preschoolers dog food to eat during a play-acting exercise at Northeast Tacoma Elementary School. A Tacoma School District spokeswoman said the children spat out the dry dog food and no one suffered any ill effects.

The teaching assistant has been placed on paid leave pending an investigation.

District spokeswoman Patti Holmgren said it happened Monday in an early education class while the supervisor was out of the room.

When a few of the students pretended to be puppies, getting down on their hands and knees and barking, the assistant attempted to encourage their playacting. She fetched a packet of dry dog food from another room and placed bits on paper plates on the floor.

The dog food came from a display intended to teach the preschoolers what not to eat, Holmgren said.

School Principal Pat Flores learned about the incident Tuesday after a parent complained. In a letter sent Wednesday to parents, Flores called the event "unfortunate."

Since this article was printed, the assistant has quit. I got this from KOMO 4 News. They kept making such a big deal about it on the commercials for the 11 o'clock news like the assistant was forcing them and being cruel. But it was playacting that got stupid. Anyways, she's a dumbass. Glad she quit.

Dogfood. Yeah, that sounds like something to eat for lunch.

Reminds me of when I bet my mother to eat some wet catfood and she did and then I didn't pay the one dollar I bet her.

That's a stupid way to teach kids what not to eat. What's next? Some teacher teaching kids not to eat food out of the garbage cans by giving them some food out of the garbage can in class sometime? Here kids, a rotten banana peel. Enjoy.

They're mistaken. It wasn't dog food; it was the new Purina Toddler Chow.

Your sense of humor leaves me cold, thirteen. I'm laughing AT you webwarrior right now. Why don't you get a sense of humor, or I'll show you what a "tirade" (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&postid=2233453&highlight=tirade#post2233453) really is.

Since when is dogfood REALLY bad for people? I wouldn't eat it, but that's because of the taste.

I ate a dog treat once though

I ate a bowl of cat food when I was seven. Intentionally. With milk and sugar. It was early in the morning. No one knew until I told them. I was such a cat nut back then.

Word of caution: Seafood flavor is NOT an ideal choice if you try this at home.

The teacher reportedly said the students were on the knees "barking like dogs" so she fed them dog food.

Maybe this demonstrates the fact that people will blindly follow authority even when something is clearly wrong. Kids eating dog food because the teacher "instructs" them to.

What's wrong with dogfood? I hear it tastes like chicken.

Right. The teacher has issues, and I wouldn't want her near any kid of mine.

I also nibbled on the red pieces in Chuck Wagon when I was a kid. It wasn't bad. :eat: :dog:
