There are films available from some tape traders that were made in the 70's & 80's by the casts of various TV shows for the US Treasury, promoting savings bonds. They looked like episodes of the shows except they were on film, and there was no audience or laugh track. The 2 films I have on tape are "Alice" and "WKRP".
The "Alice" film was made in 1977, and deals with being a "bond canvasser", someone who gets their coworkers to join the Payroll Savings Plan. The bonds then went by the names E and H, not becoming EE and HH until 1980. The interest rate at this time was 6%.
Mel and all 3 waitresses are there, but unfortunately Flo doesn't say "Kiss my grits". But this is at least mildly enjoyable, having a little more comedy - to - bond-plugging ratio than the "WKRP" film.
I'd like to read comments from anyone else out there who has seen this film.
