Hey Mariah fans, there will be a new album out soon from the #1 selling female artist of all time. This title you might notice is a bit different than her usuall titles, "Rainbow" "Butterfly" or "Charmbracelet". Mariah explains the title herself in the following quote.

Mariah's Message to Fans about 'The Emancipation of Mimi'

"So obviously my album title has leaked out way before I intended. (the single isn't even out yet...hello)

Knowing that the title was very different for me and might cause some confusion, I had a whole explanation to go along with the press release which was supposed to come out in February, but basically that got foiled.

So here it is..."Mimi" is a very personal nickname only used by those closest to me...just one of those little things that I've kept for myself in an attempt to have some delineation between a public persona and a private life.

By naming the album The Emancipation of Mimi I am letting my guard down and inviting my fans to be that much closer to me..Most importantly, I am celebrating the fact that I've grown into a person and artist who no longer feels imprisoned by my insecurities or compelled to try and live up to someone else's vision of "Mariah Carey" I now feel I can honestly say "this is me, the real me, take it or leave it" For the first time in my life, I feel free and unashamed to be who I really am..And that's what the music of this album and it's title reflect..

As always, I love ya, appreciate ya and I enjoy ya!!!

MC a.k.a Mimi."

I have heard one of the songs on the album. "Say Something" it features Snoop Dogg in a small part in the middle. It's really cool and layed back. This album is gonna be really good. Hopefully it will be out March 06.

Watch Mariah on Christmas day she will perform

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Joy To The World" .

The special will air on ABC on Christmas day (Saturday, December 25th) at 1:00pm EST.

I love Mariah Carey. I hope her new CD will come out in February. Her last year's CD "Remixes" features all the greatest remixes of classics by Mariah Carey. It was her last album on Columbia because she has her own label called MonarC which is now part of the Island/Def Jam Music Group. Her first album for her new label was "Charmbracelet". I have that on CD. It's great to be back on the boards. I every Mariah Carey album on CD. It's great to listen to.

I wish Mariah would cut all ties to the hip hop world. She is way too talented and a good singer to resort to frolicing around in videos with rap stars. The Mariah of Music Box or Emotions... that was class. I don't really care too much for her post-97 material with the exception of a few of her remixes and a couple songs like My All and Never Too Far.

I loved Mariahs ballads, and Im not one to like songs like that.

For her sake, I hope it is better than "Charmbracelet," and the rest of the crap she has been putting out for the past 7 years.

Personally I love hip hop, like many others, and I love the fact that she works with rappers. It's just her style, she's always said that she has liked that kind of music and I dont see anything wrong with it since hip hop is very popular right now, and has been since the mid-90s...anyway, I really like her song with Jadakiss, though I forget what it's called...(You Make Me Wanna?)

I think that is the opinion of many. I have always loved Mariah, and I still do, but even I recognize that her music hasn't been as good. I'm honestly scared for the new album. I'm still remaining hopeful for it, that it will be a change for her as I've been hearing, but I really don't know. I've heard the same thing from many huge Mariah fans. Not to mention her album sales are nothing near what they have been in the past.

but Mariah has too much talent to resort to rappers.

unlike someone like Ashanti or Jennifer Lopez, who also do the gimmick of working with rappers, Mariah actually can sing. When female artists hook up with rappers, usually they are ones who can't hold a tune by themselves and need help. Whereas rappers hinder Mariah's songs.

When you buy a Mariah cd, you want to hear MARIAH, not a bunch of special guest rappers. If you notice, when she was in her peak, she wasn't working with rappers. If anything, going the rap route alienated more people than it gained. People want to hear hip hop Mariah about as much as they wanna hear punk rock Celine.

I dont think it has to do with working with hip hop artists that her albums have declined.... her peak was during the mid/late 90's and she was working with hip hop artists then as well. I think people are more than one thing, I dont think Mariah Carey should do ALL hip hop songs or ALL ballads. She loves ballads, but she loves hip hop too...and a person should like more than one type of music imo.

But I think you say that because you personally do not like today's rap music. Mariah has said that she doesnt hook up with rappers just because it's hot or because she thinks it's going to make her songs popular, it's because SHE has always appreciated that kind of music, and just likes it.

and Celine Dion has said many times she loves hard rock music... doesn't mean she's calling up the members of Linkin Park to guest on her albums

how about some uptempo songs without rappers? ala Dreamlover, Make It Happen, Someday, etc... those were all great uptempo Mariah songs that didn't have rappers ruining them

:yeahthat

I love her early stuff, I bought Butterfly when it came out, but it disappointed me really, there's probably about 4 songs on Butterfly that I like total :(

Yeah, exactly. Her albums up until...Daydream (even Butterfly) have songs like that. I wish she would highly consider doing more like those.

I didnt say there's anything wrong with uptempo songs, I said that she should be able to collaborate with whoever she wants to collaborate. And you say rappers are ruining them. You dont know if they ruined them or not, if she had the same song and didnt have a rapper in it, it probably would be worse. Songs like Honey and Heartbreaker were successful even though they had hip hop in them, so I dont think you can say all of her songs with hip hop artists are flops. Her last song (Bringing On the Hearbreak) had no rap in it, and it did worse than the first two which did have hip hop artists in them. And of course no one wants to hear Celine do a duet with a punk band: their styles are totally different, and so are their audiences. Celine is adult contemporary. Mariah is R&B/Pop.

A combination of a little bit hip-hop and classic Mariah is best. That's the reason why Daydream still is her biggest hit-- it had old Mariah with enough, not too much, hip-hop.

Bringing On The Heartbreak flopped for a number of reasons, the album was already dead and people had moved on by the time it was released, and I know a ton of people who couldn't believe she had the audacity to do a Def Leppard remake. I don't remember any rappers on Through The Rain.

Mariah might NOW be r&b/pop, but back in 97 when she did Honey, she was ever bit Adult Contemporary as Celine was. Mariah and Celine were the queens of AC radio back then, but then Mariah decided to go the rap route, which killed off her AC fanbase, while Celine stayed with the market. If Celine was to suddenly work with The White Stripes now, it wouldn't really been any more of a drastic shock than when Mariah started working with Puff Daddy. Her fanbase of soccer moms and housewives would react equally as negative to a punk Celine as they did to a hip hop Mariah.

right, I think Daydream is the type of album Mariah should try to go back to, NOT Butterfly (which she seems to favor of all the albums of her catalog). Mariah was the biggest star in the world for awhile when Daydream came out, her music was equally pop and r&b, with no real bias to either genre, and people ate it up in droves she hasn't seen since. With that album, everyone seemed to like Mariah. She was just the right amount of pop, just the right amount of r&b.

I love Mariah Carey. She's like an inspiration to me,and i loved her Rainbow album. The song 'Cant take that away' is her theme, and i consider it to be mine as well.I feel close to Mariah because it seems like she has gone through similar experiences to me.I cant wait for the new album.

ok, a fair comparison. How would you like it if Usher decides with his next album, "**** this r&b man, I'm gonna go rock" and goes and hooks up with Hoobastank and all these other rock acts who you don't like and then all remaining traces of what you liked about him in the first place is gone? That is exactly how it was when Mariah ditched AC and went for the hip hop market.

I just dont think she was ever AC, even if she was played on AC stations. It's all how you look at it really...she's always been played on AC stations and she's always been played on Rnb stations. I dont think most AC artists collaborate with Old Dirty Bastard and Da Brat for remix singles, which she did early on. Always Be My Baby had a remix with XScape and Da Brat, Fantasy had Old Dirty Bastard, and there are a lot of others that I cant think of right now, and those were early in her career, before Butterfly...

I think a good example of how Mariah should be is Janet. Kanye West produced a few songs off Damita Jo and did make an appearence on the album, but yet at the same time, while you felt his presence on the album, the music didn't go too far to the extent that it would alienate "pop" fans who don't normally go for hip hop. Much of Mariah's work with rappers has been just that. Yes, I know you can point out Janet's album flopped, but I think a huge radio blacklist played a bigger factor in it's lack of success than whether the album was good or bad, because it was a better album than "All For You"

Yeah I have to agree with you. Im really not diggin the rap either. On her Charmbracelet album there is a few songs on there that don't have rap. "My Saving Grace" and "Subtle Invitation" those were really nice too. :)
