Why is there never anyone here on this board? It's like this show doesn't have a fanbase or something.

View Full Version : Why is this board always so dead? crystals 12-07-2004, 12:06 AM Why is there never anyone here on this board? Maybe it'd get more people interested in the show again! I'd love to see it back on TV. MandieR1980 01-03-2005, 11:41 PM There's just nothing to talk about, with Rebecca dead and the show not airing there's just nothing. I don't think I ever saw this show but I want to really really badly. Heather987 01-04-2005, 11:00 PM http://www.sitcomsonline.com/videoclips/mysistersam.avi This is the opening theme if you are interested in it....Has a brief talking in the beginning from RS and PD grneyes135 01-05-2005, 12:33 AM Thanks for posting the link to the opening of MSS. How beautiful Rebecca was. I wish it was in syndication. I rarely ever see her on television....only during programs on stalkers. So depressing. My Sister Sam was only on the air for two years (it was nearly a top 20 show in its first year but got slaughtered when CBS moved it from Mondays in-between Kate & Allie and Newhart to Saturday nights (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986%E2%80%9387_United_States_network_television_schedule) against The Facts of Life on NBC for its second year). I think My Sister Sam was just perceived as a show that was beneficiary of the shows that it was sandwiched in-between (Kate & Allie and Newhart) and not a show that could succeed on its own, which was evident when CBS later moved it to Tuesday nights (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987%E2%80%9388_United_States_network_television_schedule). And plus, there's the very morbid issue that most people would more than likely not remember or never have heard about this show if it weren't for the tragedy surrounding Rebecca Schaeffer's murder less than a year after the show was canceled. someguy23475 10-18-2020, 04:09 AM There are a handful of first season episodes online. I had never watched the show prior (I was very young when it first aired and while I remember USA airing reruns, I never watched it). It’s a mediocre two season show. Had Schaeffer not been murdered, it would be talked about even less that it is (unless she became a huge star, like Tom Hanks and Bosom Buddies). Even Jenny O’Hara appearing as Doug Heffernan’s mom on King of Queens didn’t renew interest in the show. TMC 10-19-2020, 04:50 AM There are a handful of first season episodes online. On Mork & Mindy, she was pretty much meant to be the straight-woman and foil for Robin Williams. But on MSS, it was indisputably, her show. I don't know if Rebecca Schaeffer was always presumed to be the breakout star of the show, or that's retroactive thinking given her tragic fate. She was asked to read/audition for the role of Mary Corleone (the role that was ultimataely played with disasterous results by Sofia Coppola) for The Godfather Part III around the same time that she was killed. I don't know if this is a fair assessment, but I wonder if the horrible circumstances of Rebecca Schaeffer's way too early death, easily makes it a very uncomfortable show to revisit. I don't know how to properly explain it, other than it's kind of hard to immerse yourself into My Sister Sam with the full knowledge that Rebecca would soon be senselessly murdered by an obsessed fan. It's easy to get depressed and upset just seeing her on screen again, knowing full well that she had much more to offer had she never encountered Robert John Bardo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NgDod5h8vg&pp=ygURcm9iZXJ0IGpvaG4gYmFyZG8%3D). |
