Hi Kids:

You know that U2 song Vertigo where Bono says "Unos, dos, tres, catorce" at the beginning? I know Jack says that in a scene on Three's Company, but it's driving me absolutely crazy that i can't figure out the situation and episode. Does anyone know where that's from?

Thanks!

I think that's the epi where he plays the doctor.

It is from the episode "Doctor In The House". Jack was pretending he was a doctor, and he was using a stethescope. He blew into it and said "Uno, Dos, Tres, Catorce". It was a really funny scene.

I also just seen on ET that on "Being of sound mind and body" he used the same line. :)

You guys RULE... that's exactly it!!

Since i don't have "Doctor In The House" on VHS or DVD, it'll be awhile until i get the original quote in audio form. But i DO have a copy of "Being of Sound Mind and Body" which i haven't had time to watch yet. So i just fast-forwarded until i saw the clip i saw on Entertainment Tonight, and pulled the audio... but the message board won't let me post it.

If you want, you can email me the clip and I'll put it on the sitcomsonline.com server.

No problem...

I honestly believe Bono somehow got this from Ritter, but the real significance of this line is that John used it twice... the first time in the special from 1980, then he used it again in a later episode of Three's Company. Since he conceived the special, chances are HE wrote/improvised/adlibbed that line -- not a show writer. Now 24 years later it's immortalized in a song! COOL.

The good people at WGN Radio had a segment on all this Ritter/Veritgo talk. Andy Hermann (drew773) from WGN Radio sent me this file:

Also, Andy, "Doctor in the House" will air on TV Land early Tuesday morning of January 11 (late Monday night Jan. 10) at 2:30 AM ET/PT - 1:30AM CT

I heard this same line on last night's SNL, probably during Colin Farrell's sketch w/ Ferecito, though Farrell also played Bono in one sketch, so either is a possibility.

Lucky for me, i have a broadcast outlet for my theory. Nick Digilio at WGN Radio let me debut my discovery on the air... and since i'm the producer of the show i put the audio on our website!

Very interesting. I enjoyed hearing that, Andy. Someone really needs to ask Bono this. You should've mentioned the Sitcoms Online message boards, since the U2 fan mentioned a U2 board ;)
