laceyinthesky 12-01-2004, 02:51 AM I personally like all of the songs from Mariah Carey's Christmas album. That certainly should have won a grammy! It should win a grammy every year!
I've always been a big fan of Sting's rendition of "Gabriel's Message."

Yeah, maybe you could've done a top 10 instead. I think most people have more than one favorite Christmas song, and would be able to think of 10 just like that. I know I would!!
But definitely my favorite--
Leroy's Anderson's version of "Sleigh Ride". It's an instrumental and it ROCKS!! It always seems to put me in a better mood when I hear it on the radio.
HuntingtonM15 12-01-2004, 06:54 PM Probably Martina's version of O Come All Ye Faithful and Mariah's version of O Holy Night.
Penny Lane 12-01-2004, 08:47 PM I prefer the more traditional carols by choirs.:D

"Santa Baby" by anyone (though it's an appropriate song for Madge to sing) is the worst Christmas song of all time! Who wants to hear a song about a gold digger trying to seduce Santa Claus into giving her the gaudiest and most outrageously expensive gifts imaginable? And I have to hear it TWICE a day (I don't know who sings this particular version, but I know it's not Madge or Eartha Kitt) at the store I'm working at for the holidays!!!
This song sucks! :barf:

I don't see how "When You Wish Upon a Star" could be considered "anti-Disney"
... especially when (1) it originated in a Disney movie ("PINOCCHIO," 1940) and
(2) for many years was the theme song for the popular 1950s ABC-TV series
DISNEYLAND!!

stella 12-26-2005, 04:51 AM I don't like how all the radio stations suddenly stop playing Christmas Songs as soon as the clock strikes midnight and enters December 26. If people continue to put display their Christmas trees and lights until the New Year, then it would be nice to have X'mas songs continue until the New Year as well.
phoebe7165 12-26-2005, 09:16 AM I have to agree with you, even though there were some songs that got a little overplayed and tiring for me(Winter Wonderland, for one!!). It's like you've been hearing these songs for a good month and you've gotten so used to them, then they abruptly stop. And even though the radio stations say something like "You're enjoying continuous Christmas music, but on the 26th, we''ll be going back to regular programming", it's still kind of a downer for me when they do go back to the regular music. Plus it's still the holidays!! Like you said, people are still going to be putting their Christmas lights on tonight even though it's after Christmas. The stations should at least continue playing some 'holiday' music through New Years.
2 songs that I really like that I wish some of the stations would get a hold of and play are "What are you doing New Years Eve?" and "It's Just Another New Years Eve." I doubt that would ever happen though.

Janice 12-25-2006, 09:27 PM Christmas In Dixie
By now in New York City.
There's snow on the ground.
And out in California.
The sunshines' falling down.
And maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights.
And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight.
Christmas in Dixie, its snowing in the pines.
Merry Christmas from Dixie to everyone tonight.
Its windy in Chicago.
The kids are out of school.
There's magic in Motown.
The city's on the move.
In Jackson, Mississippi to Charlotte, Caroline.
And all across the Nation, its a peaceful Christmas time.
Christmas in Dixie, its snowing in the pines.
Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight.
And from Fort Payne, Alabama..Merry Christmas tonight.
Steve M. 12-25-2006, 09:51 PM I'm curious, Steve. What makes this song a "redneck ditty"?
Sothin' accents, corny, syrupy Nashville production, dumb lyrics, anything with the word "Dixie" in the lyrics.
That describes any suburban cowboy ballad enjoyed by the Religous Right. :p

Brad Russ 12-26-2006, 04:06 AM Mary's Boy Child, by Boney M., is hands down the greatest Christmas song EVER, as far as I'm concerned.
Mary's Boy Child (oh My Lord)
Mary's boy child jesus christ, was born on christmas day.
And man will live for evermore, because of christmas day.
Long time ago in bethlehem, so the holy bible said,
Mary's boy child jesus christ, was born on christmas day.
Hark, now hear the angels sing, a king was born today,
And man will live for evermore, because of christmas day.
Mary's boy child jesus christ, was born on christmas day.
While shepherds watch their flocks by night,
They see a bright new shining star,
They hear a choir sing a song, the music seemed to come from afar.
Hark, now hear the angels sing, a king was born today,
And man will live for evermore, because of christmas day.
For a moment the world was aglow, all the bells rang out
There were tears of joy and laughter, people shouted
"let everyone know, there is hope for all to find peace".
Now joseph and his wife, mary, came to bethlehem that night,
They found no place to bear her child, not a single room was in sight.
And then they found a little nook in a stable all forlorn,
And in a manger cold and dark, mary's little boy was born.
Hark, now hear the angels sing, a king was born today,
And man will live for evermore, because of christmas day.
Mary's boy child jesus christ, was born on christmas day.
Oh a moment still worth was a glow, all the bells rang out
There were tears of joy and laughter, people shouted
"let everyone know, there is hope for all to find peace".
Oh my lord
Oh my lord
You sent your son to save us
Oh my lord
Your very self you gave us
Oh my lord
That sin may not enslave us
And love may reign once more
Oh my lord
When in the crib they found him
Oh my lord
A golden halo crowned him
Oh my lord
They gathered all around him
To see him and adore
(this day will live forever)
Oh my lord (so praise the lord)
They had become to doubt you
Oh my lord (he is the truth forever)
What did they know about you
Oh my lord (so praise the lord)
But they were lost without you
They needed you so bad (his light is shining on us)
Oh my lord (so praise the lord)
With the child's adoration
Oh my lord (he is a personation)
There came great jubilation
Oh my lord (so praise the lord)
And full of admiration
They realized what they had (until the sun falls from the sky)
Oh my lord (oh praise the lord)
You sent your son to save us
Oh my lord (this day will live forever)
Your very self you gave us
Oh my lord (so praise the lord)
That sin may not enslave us
And love may reign once more

That is kind of odd. They gave a list on a local radio station here, naming the most played Christmas songs, and this one was ranked #1 on the list. I probably heard it atleast 10 times myself.
They also named the artist who had the most Christmas songs, and I was pretty surprised with the results. Johnny Mathis was ranked number 1. I wasn't surprised with number 2 though, which was Amy Grant. Other notables that made the top five were: Nat King Cole, and of course Bing Crosby.
