So I have been reading that the main reason why these are not out yet (and may never be) is because of music rights. That leaves me with two questions:

1. Why is it okay then to keep them in syndication with the same songs?

2. (More of a comment really) Shouldn't Fox at least offer a statement saying as such... seeing that it is one of the more requested titles (and has been for years).

I am kinda sad about the whole thing really. I taped about 75% of them during their original ABC run, and got all but 3 episodes when they aired on N@N. Those missing episodes drive me crazy, and I have just been waiting for the day to read about their release on DVD, but it looks like that might not ever come.

I am in the camp that if they can't get the rights to the original music, they shouldn't bother.

When the Wonder Years aired, it was before the great popularity of the release of shows on dvd.
The rights covered the original telecast only.
I don't know if syndication was covered, but my guess is that it was somehow dealt with later or was covered for the most part. Later showings of the Wonder Years on ABC Family have several episodes where original songs were changed.

Today, my guess is that a new tv show negotiates all that up front.
And yes, Fox should say something.

Yes. Ask this PURE dude. He's very reliable. :::chokes on his own air intake:::

If they can't afford the music rights for the DVDs... then don't release it.

Look, if you change the music for DVD release sake, that'll destroy the episodes. The songs were carefully chosen to fit the mood of the episode. You'll be destroying the purpose of the show if you alter the music or remove it.

I don't know why this thread was created. There's already a topic called DVD News. Did you not notice?

uh... first, notice the date on this thread then compare it to the one you mentioned... then sit back and ponder why you should research things before opening your mouth... or in this case putting your fingers to a keyboard.

Well, since the topic was at the top of the list of topics, hinting that it's usually a recent topic..... and seeing as how there aren't many posts on this thread, I thought it was recent.

You forgive me now?

I will think about it ;)

I just detected some "tone" in your previous post. That and I was a little grumpy to begin with.

Read my original post and you will see that you and I agree.... original music or nothing.
