what is the name of the dog referred to at the end of the credits.......is it ubu or boo boo.......?

The name is UBU. They say "Sit, UBU, Sit. Good dog". This is as a tag (ad) for the production company UBU Productions, which produced Family Ties (as well as Spin City).

Although Michael is right he forgot one more word. The commercial actually says "Sit UBU sit. Good Dog. Woof!" that's it. just had to get it right. bye

Yes, that´s completely right. I forgot the "woof" part. But of course, it should be "Sit, UBU, Sit. Good dog. Woof!", which is said during the time the logo for UBU Productions (the executive producer Gary David Goldberg´s company) is shown at the end of the closing credits of each episode.

And by the way, where did you get the name "Michael" from (in the last message in this thread)?

A bit of useless trivia is that Gary David Goldberg's dog's name that he had in college was Ubu.. now you know..

Completely true. That´s where the company name UBU Productions came from.

This was revealed in the "behind-the-scenes" program Inside Family Ties, I don´t know if it has been mentioned somewhere else or not.
