Perhaps someone already asked this question, but I can't seem to find it. The occasional specials that aired before the series began a weekly run: did they also have reenactments and interviews? The reason I ask is because the episode guide says that reenactments and interviews began with Robert Stack and the weekly run? What did these older episodes look like?

I have seen the 3 specials and have them in my collection. I think they are pretty similar to the episodes that Robert Stack hosted. They do have re-enactments as well as interviews with the people involved. I really liked them and thought they had an old and creepy feel to them. Burr & Malden were good but of course they don't do as good of a job as Robert Stack did and its obvious why they chose him out of the three to be the show's permanent host.

I have a bootleg of the three pre-Stack specials. Although I didn't see the specials in their original context (original broadcasts in 1987) I thought they were very similar to later (Stack hosted) specials/episodes from that first season. They do feature the re-enactments, and eyewitness interviews. Out of the three choices for a host, Stack was/is definitely the best. Burr and Malden couldn't even get it into the park.
