All of The Lord of the Rings movies. Sorry I couldn't even get through the first one and I don't see what the big deal was.

It grossed alot because films aimed at kids/families tend to do well at the box office; because movies that deal in fantasy, like Wizard of Oz or Willy Wonka tend to attract audiences, because there were products associated with its release that generated even more interest in it, from dolls to trading cards, because it was a story that featured a character audiences developed an affinity for, and rooted for at the end. I haven't seen it in years but thought it was very entertaining. Apparently, so did alot of other people.

The English Patient was widely acclaimed by critics and won a slew of awards. I hated it. What a snoozer. I felt like Elaine in that episode of Seinfeld where everyone loved it, and she hated it.

I agree with Janice about The English Patient. Also, I didn't get the Lord of the Rings hoopla. I didn't see the movies because I had no desire to do so,(even though I had read the books). I did see enough trailers and 'this and thats' to convince me that I wasn't missing something that I might enjoy.

Titanic was overrated. I was hoping that Leonardo Di Caprio would redeem himself after that, and he has. Catch Me If You Can and Streets of New York were both fine movies and he did a great job in both of them.

Lord Of The Rings (am I the only person who enjoyed Harry Potter and hated LOTR) and Spiderman have to be the biggies in recent years.

Oh yea, and anything with Jerry Bruckheimer's name attached to it

Damn. What a dork I am. I liked the majority of the movies listed so far. Except ET and Shrek.

I agree with Kitt and Marlene about Titanic. I don't like romance movies and I thought it was a chick flick. It seems like the only people I know who like it and don't think it's overrated are women. I'm not exaggerating.

I liked "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" but did it really need all those Oscars? It's great entertainment but that's all. I could see why it won Best Picture, as basically the other movies were either not hyped enough or didn't deserve the nod.

I gotta go with

Titanic-too many people saw this movie just for Leo.

Shrek 2-This movie isn't very good. Every Pixar movie has been 2x as better as this movie and THIS movie makes more money?!?! I'll never understand it. I liked this movie but it gives a bad name to the #1 comedy of all time

Star Wars Prequels-They're crap and I don't know why any star wars fan would actually go see them.

even tho movies like Pearl Harbor and Armageddon grossed a lot at the box office, are they truly overrated when the general consensus was that those movies were turds?

Where were you? There certainly was a bombing scene, and it was incredibly dramatic and heartbreaking. It lasted 40 minutes. It was when the Japanese bombed the Pearl Harbor Naval Base.

It happened on December 7, 1941, and resulted in the death of over 2,200 American Sailors and Marines. In fact, it's the reason the movie was titled Pearl Harbor.

Towards the end of the movie, there was a second bombing scene....the American Air Force bombing Tokyo.

Titanic. Yeah, it's an okay movie. Not a great one, but not a really bad one either, and certainly not worth all the hype. It's not going to stand the test of time. That script is already looking really dated.

"Your father left us with nothing but a pile of debts hidden by a good name. That name is the only card we have to play." Gimme a break.

So that and just about every film ever made by Martin Scorcese. I have yet to see one film by him that I've liked. Taxi Driver was just blood and guts, Age of Innocence was such a snore, and Gangs of New York was blood, guts, and snores.

One interesting thing about the Titanic that I found out after my mother died was that, her cousin says, some love letters from some of her distant relatives were found in the wreckage of the Titanic perfectly preserved.

Which would probably explain why mother was a big fan of the movie.

Titanic (1997) - the acting and effects were fine, but the script stunk. That was some of the cheesiest dialogue in movie history. James Cameron is a good director and producer, but he's no writer.

Not only that - it's a prime example of how the Academy Awards have turned into a joke.
