View Full Version : 'Joey and the Plot Twist' 12/9/04
slackermonkey 11-24-2004, 12:08 AM NBC just released the synopsis for this episode, and I had to post it. Hope I didn't steal your thunder, Brian.
JOEY STARTS WORK ON HIS NEW JOB - It is Joey's (Matt LeBlanc) first day at his new job on the television series "Deep Powder" and after reading a confidential script of an upcoming episode, he begins to worry that his character is going to be killed off. Meanwhile, the Tribbiani clan attempts to recreate a perfect East Coast Christmas in Los Angeles and faces a variety of difficulties, the first being the sunny weather. Also starring Drea de Matteo, Paulo Costanzo and Andrea Anders.
I'm pretty excited that we at least get a Christmas episode. Too bad about no Thanksgiving ep, though.
Brian Damage 11-24-2004, 12:09 AM No problem, I'm happy there is a Christmas episode myself.
slackermonkey 11-24-2004, 12:12 AM By the way, this'll be the last episode in December. We won't be getting new episodes until January 6th. Rerun time!
Brian Damage 11-24-2004, 12:37 AM That really sucks, this show needs to gain momentum.
slackermonkey 11-24-2004, 01:07 AM Well, NBC hardly ever airs more than two episodes every December (unless it's a poorly-performing show, and they want to bleed off some episodes) because it's supposedly the lowest-rated month of the television season.
Besides, by December, the first twelve episodes will have aired. That's quite a few for about three months. NBC is airing as many as they can, especially since only the first thirteen have been filmed (with the fourteenth not scheduled to film until the cast and crew gets back from Thanksgiving break).
slackermonkey 11-26-2004, 02:50 AM Bobbie will be appearing in this episode.
No word on Howard yet, but I could see him fitting into this episode. Don't hold me to that, though.
slackermonkey 11-29-2004, 12:54 AM I have a slight problem with this episode.
It's apparently about Joey attending a press junket for his new show, accidentally blurting out a spoiler in the interview, and worrying his character is going to get killed off as a result.
They already did this on Friends -- twice. The first time when he was Dr. Ramoray, and they killed him off for claiming he wrote his own lines. Then, when they resurrected him and he did another Soap Opera Digest interview, he was afraid he would say something else that might make the writers kill him off again, so he had everyone come for moral support.
I'm sure there will be a twist on the plot this time around, but it kind of seems like they're running out of good "Joey as an actor" storylines. Then again, the Vegas episode has its similarities to the Vegas episode of Friends but is still different enough, so who knows.
Brian Damage 11-29-2004, 01:01 AM I don't have a problem with it, because in a way, it is like an ongoing storyline. What I mean by that is Joey is paranoid ever since losing the best job he ever had by screwing things up.
slackermonkey 11-29-2004, 01:11 AM I love the continuity of it, but it seems more of a retread than a continuation of the story to me.
But I say that without knowing much about this episode, so I won't judge.
Brian Damage 11-29-2004, 01:13 AM True, if he gets killed off, then I'll be with you in shouting "RETREAD!" Right now, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
slackermonkey 11-29-2004, 01:16 AM Well, my friends at Warner tell me it's supposed to be an ongoing storyline, so unless two episodes constitutes "ongoing," I think it's safe to say he lives.
There'd be too much wasted potential if they kill the storyline without ever bothering to explore it at all.
Brian Damage 11-29-2004, 01:18 AM True, this whole storyline can create great sub-plots.
spunkygirl 11-29-2004, 02:46 AM Sounds pretty good to me :)
Brian Damage 12-04-2004, 01:05 PM 11/30 - Gina and Joey shop for a Christmas tree. Joey prepares for a scene with 8-year-old Sawyer, the actor who plays Charlie. Someone is set to die in "Deep Powder"... Source: SpoilerFix.com
sonyab 12-04-2004, 03:03 PM Maybe on the show one of his kids is suppose to die? Joey would have to show alot of emotions.. I don't know we will just have to see it when they air it. :)
slackermonkey 12-07-2004, 10:18 PM Pictures!
We NEED to use the third one as this board's Christmas picture.

Okay all done
slackermonkey 12-09-2004, 08:59 PM Picture hasn't been updated yet. TJ must be busy.
The episode's just now starting! Yay.
spunkygirl 12-09-2004, 09:32 PM :rotflmao: OMG this episode was hilarious. Joey with his winter coat and gloves on outside where it's warm when he was looking for a Christmas Tree.
Joey's "suck it bomb" had me rolling, don't know why that struck me so funny, I think it was the way he said it.
All in all a great episode
barwars 12-09-2004, 09:33 PM The gypsies/elves line was one of the best of the series.
One of the better episodes, thus far.
slackermonkey 12-09-2004, 09:36 PM Wow, what an awesome episode. Hilarious, and definitely one of the best ones of the season.
Lucy Liu was great. I've never seen her in a sitcom environment before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but she really brought the funny, and I loved her obsessive-compulsive character.

Yeah I loved her character, Lucy fits in great on the show, I hope they can get her back for some more episodes, a recurring role would be great
barwars 12-09-2004, 09:40 PM I wonder if Lucy Liu helped with the ratings. (hopefully)
Next week will see a change, with Survivor over.
"Can I dress your cat like a reindeer?"
Great line.
I think Lucy Liu should join the cast. She was great.
slackermonkey 12-09-2004, 09:44 PM She'll be in the next episode, "Joey and the Taste Test." It's another Deep Powder-centric episode.
Speaking of which, I'm so glad that Deep Powder allows more characters for Joey to interact with (except Gunnar, who I'm guessing won't be there anymore). That may account for why this episode felt fresher, in addition to the characters not hanging around in that apartment the whole time. I had to laugh when Gina was trying to get Joey into the apartment and he said "Naw, it's so boring in there." After a line like that, I realized the writers have to lurk at some of these boards. The coincidence was just too great.
I just wish I knew where they're going with Katie. Is she gonna be his new love interest or what? She's just... there, and says dirty things to Joey every once in awhile. Lauren would be a stronger character to pair Joey up with for a few episodes, though making them an item is a little too obvious.
spunkygirl 12-09-2004, 09:47 PM Yeah Lucy would be great as a regular cast member, such great chemistry with Matt/Joey
I loved the elves/gypsy thing too, and when Alex said "awww look at his face" after he saw the apartment was decorated

Yeah, but the sad thing is, next week, Joey is preempted by The Apprentice finale, and then goes into reruns for the rest of the month, so we won't see any spike in ratings until at least January. And I'm sure by that time, CBS will come up with something to put in that slot to trump Joey's ratings.
Chambers 12-09-2004, 10:32 PM That was pretty good.
Lucy Liu was great.
Brian Damage 12-09-2004, 11:23 PM Lucy Liu was fantastic and the show really is starting to look like it is going somewhere. The writing is gradually improving I think. A solid B+

I gave TJ the link for the pic, but he can't view it without a name and password and I can't view it now at all. Are you able to view it? If you can save it then attach it, and I will PM TJ with the link for it it thanks
slackermonkey 12-10-2004, 05:40 AM Okay, is it wrong that I'm still laughing at "SUCK IT, BOMB!" Because that? Funniest. Thing. On this show. Ever.
DukeDevils9192 12-10-2004, 09:40 AM Fantastic episode. Everything just worked perfectly.
I loved when he revealed the plot twist, I loved when he was shopping for the tree, and most importantly, I howled when he yelled, "Gypsies!"
Thumbs way up.
tvfan0101 12-10-2004, 11:42 AM You know, the episode was amusing and all, but Joey's stupidity is getting to the point where he is so unbelievable as a character that I am unable to get into the episodes. Most of the jokes only work because Joey is stupid, the plots all revolve around Joey being stupid, it is just too much.

:rotflmao: No cause that's the line of the year for whole show
sonyab 12-10-2004, 09:10 PM I liked the episode. The way Joey wanted to be in the holiday spirit by wearing winter clothes. Cute and sweet.. I was afraid he was going to get fired and then it would just be a recycle storyline and I wouldn't be happy. He lived tho and I'm happy. Lucy Liu is very funny. She kept thinking that her stove was on ROFL. Hey I thought Joey's charactor on deep powder is suppose to have a son? They showed his daughter but no son. Where is he?

I've seen Friends fans say that Joey is too dumb(even on Friends) to be enjoyable, I don't get that at all, that's what his character is, he's dumb, and of course the jokes are at Joey's expense because he's not so smart ;)
