i just finished watching all of the episodes of "the office" and found it to be the funniest thing i have ever seen on tv. i loved it for the wonderful british humor and for the very good, very real, very honest story.

i am not a big fan of the canned laughter and unbelievable stories of the US sitcoms.

but, other than "the office" i know *nothing* about britcoms. can someone recommend another series which i can get ahold of (on DVD for example)?

i found that i liked the humor of the office, the tone and the fact that many of the characters were about my age (29).

'Bottom' is absolutely amazing, Adrian Edmonson is Edward Elizabeth Hitler and the extraordinary Rik Mayall is Richard Richard, they have a rare chemistry between them, having worked together since college and having also produced another great BritCom entitled 'The Young Ones', which I'd also highly recommend. I have a defective cxopy of season 1 of The Office, which interupted the flow of things quite a bit and prevented me from getting much of an appriciation for the show, but what I could watch was, for my own taste, far beneath Bottom and The Young Ones. Ripping Yarns is an absolute scream too, very British and somewhat dry, brilliantly written by Michael Palin and Terry Jones of Monty Python circa '75, highly recommended too. Oh, and Absolutely Fabulous is great too. The best of the BritComs are just so well conceived and written it's amazing.

Hmmm, not really off the top of my head, actual British people would likely have an idea. Good question, makes me wonder if there's any younger comedians emerging.

Little Britain is the funniest thing I've seen in years. Not a sitcom though - it's a sketch show. It's heading for BBC America, with a potential DVD release in the States, so that's one to keep an eye out for. I don't know if it's been tested on foreign audiences yet. Might just be something that works in the UK!

Err... *thinks* was it six or seven? One for every day leading up to the main characters' wedding.
