McCartney Picked for Super Bowl Halftime Show
Former Beatle Safe Choice After Janet Jackson Controversy
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Paul McCartney will headline the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 6 as the NFL goes mainstream after the controversy over last January's show.
"There's nothing bigger then being asked to perform at the Super Bowl," said McCartney. "We're looking forward to rocking the millions at home and in the stadium."
Last Feb. 1 at Houston's Reliant Stadium, singer Justin Timberlake ripped off part of singer Janet Jackson's outfit, exposing her right breast to a TV audience of some 90 million people.
CBS is protesting an FCC fine of $550,000 for the halftime show.
Clearly, the league has chosen to avoid such potential problems by signing the former Beatle. It will be McCartney's second Super Bowl appearance. He also sang in the pregame show in New Orleans in 2002.
"We are extremely pleased to work again with Paul McCartney, one of the greatest musicians of our time, to create a memorable show," said Steve Bornstein, the NFLs executive vice president of media. "As one of the worlds most beloved artists and incomparable live entertainers, Paul McCartney will deliver an inspirational performance."

Steve M. 11-22-2004, 02:25 PM I can imagine Macca repeatedly havign to go back to merrie olde England, where they play soccer - did I happen to mention that soccer is the most popular sport everywhere but America and we're the only ones who play football? That should tell you something! - and explain the game to the Brits - Andy Griffith style! :D
"What this was, mates, was football. . . ."

Yeah, that would be nice. :D ;) I don't usually care to watch the Super Bowl, but I guess I'll try to catch some of it this year.
Hollow 11-22-2004, 07:50 PM thank god they chose a real, mature musician this time.
janet and justin timber**** really should be ashamed of themselves. this is the superbowl, not the MTV movie awards  and justin made the biggest ass out of himself byannouncing that it was an accident.

One thing that pisses me off about McCartney's live performances is that he has forty years' worth of material he can use, but he usually just performs big Beatles hits he penned, his early solo hits and stuff from his most recent album. Everything else is ignored.

I know what you mean. But that is what his fans want!
Rick Nelson tried doing some new and little known material and it about ruined his career.ie; (Garden Party) I, for one, prefer his better known stuff! :D
musicradio77 11-22-2004, 09:38 PM Wow! Paul McCartney is going to be on the Super Bowl Halftime Show this February. I will have to say this, no more of this Janet Jackson stuff from last year. I hope he's going to be there. He will perform some of his Beatles & Wings songs and those other ones too. I hope it will be great.:)

true, plus Paul had plenty of hits in the 80's and there's a few in the 90's that people would recognize as well. Elton John and Cher seems to do the best job of this, they will pick hits from all various points of their career.
Dean Winchester 11-24-2004, 12:32 PM people keep assuming that this year will be cleaner than the Justin/Janet thing.
How do we know when Paul brings special guest Tiffany up and they perform "I Saw YOU Standing There" (combining both versions), that Paul might not cause a wardrobe malfunction on Ms. Darwish's behalf? I mean, she posed for Playboy, lol.
Ten bucks says he plays "Live And Let Die."
The only 'wardrobe malfunction" I forsee is if Marlene charges the stage and rips Paul's clothes off.
;)
