View Full Version : ABC After School Special episode title
Brolandet 11-21-2004, 09:24 PM I'm been looking for the name of an episode that I loved
as a kid of one of the After School Specials.
It was the story of a very young boy and girl and I remember
that they pricked their fingers to become blood brother and
sister and that one was jewish and one was catholic - (I believe)
my memory is not what it used to be but I think they were
on a boat and somehow the little boy thought he had killed
the little girl, they had been running away together or so I
think that's how it went. Also I vaguely remember that since
they weren't of the same religion they were forbidden from
being friends........
If anyone can tell me the name of this episode I would
be so greatful.......It was a favorite of mine and I can't
find this info anywhere.......so here I am hoping that someone
out there in sitcomland will remember and let me know.
Thanks so much,
Brolandet
Pentimento 11-22-2004, 02:06 PM Not an After School Special, but it sounds to me like an episode of CBS Children's Film Festival which aired on Saturday mornings in the late '60s and early '70s, I believe. The series was hosted by Kukla, Fran and Ollie, and it featured short films from around the world. If I recall correctly, the episode that fits your description was called Hand in Hand.
Brolandet 11-29-2004, 10:21 PM Thank you so much for putting a name to my memory...
of this classic movie that I saw as a child.
I'm in the process of trying to locate a copy now, thanks
to you. Even if I don't get lucky this time, now that I know
the name of the movie I can search periodically for it.
I don't believe in ever giving up a quest so I'll keep trying.
I can't thank you enough. Your information was right on.
I hope I can locate a copy of this film for my family, so I
can share it with them.
You must have a very good memory. It's kind gestures
like yours that makes a difference in this world.
Wishing you well -
B
phoebe7165 11-30-2004, 01:38 AM I cannot believe what I was reading!! I remember watching Hand in Hand when I was a kid and all these years later, once in a while, I still think of it!! It has been so long but I vaguely remember a scene in a cave. I think, I could be thinking of something else.
Thanks from me, too, Pentimento!! I'll have to look for it now.
Pentimento 11-30-2004, 10:53 AM Well, I'm glad my freakishly retentive memory could be of service. :)
It just happens that CBS Children's Film Festival was my favorite Saturday morning show when I was a kid, so I remember a lot of the films. I wish one of the children-oriented cable networks could rerun it and give another generation a chance to appreciate it. There were some very good films in that series.

That's it!! The CBS Children's Film Festival!! Thanks for bringing back these memories, because I used to watch that all the time, too. There was another movie I remember watching and loving it and I'm not sure if it was part of the CFF, but it was called "The Blue Bird"?? with Shirley Temple. She was a little bit older and the movie didn't do as well as her previous movies.
I do remember a scene where she & her brother were in heaven, and they met their yet-to-be-born sister. That's all I can really remember from that, it's been so long since I've seen it.
Pentimento 12-01-2004, 11:12 AM I wouldn't think that The Blue Bird would have been on CFF since they were all short films from different countries. The ones I remember most clearly are Hand in Hand, Skinny and Fatty, The Red Balloon and Paddle to the Sea.
I just did a search and found a forum about CFF here (http://pub29.bravenet.com/forum/2464694698/) and there's a link there to a supposedly complete list of all the films here (http://users.ultinet.net/~kfo/cbs.html). No Blue Bird, but the list certainly brought back some fond memories of other films. :)
phoebe7165 12-01-2004, 03:20 PM OK, thanks, Pentimento!!
