View Full Version : Happy Thanksgiving, Orphans!
Chambers 11-20-2004, 02:49 AM What an appropriate time to discuss why "Thanksgiving Orphans" is one of the best Cheers episodes ever.
I'll begin:
The food fight scene. That has got to be one of the funniest physical comedy scenes the show ever produced. It was a brilliant way to convey the tension between the characters and, of course, a brilliant way to make sure we never saw Vera.
slackermonkey 11-20-2004, 03:08 AM The food fight, natch, but also Diane when she first came out of the kitchen "STOPTHISIMMEDIATELY!!!" It was a combination of the expression on her face and the way she said it. I loved her Pilgrim outfit, too. (was it Pilgrim? I haven't seen it in awhile, I just know it was something Thanksgiving-related)
ThirteenInchEscape 11-20-2004, 03:26 AM god I <3 Diane
Chambers 11-20-2004, 12:34 PM Haha yes, it was a pilgrim outift. I also loved the way she appeared at Carla's house.
*Rings doorbell, Carla opens door*
"Gobble, gobble!"
*Carla slams door in her face*
Oh, and the other nice thing about this episode is that it really materialized the idea that these characters were each other's family......aw.
Brian Damage 11-20-2004, 01:31 PM The Thanksgiving Orphans is my favorite episode. I love the scene after the food fight where Frasier says something like, "Gee, I never did get to try the potatoes" and Sam scoops some off of the wall and gives it to him.
Moondance 11-20-2004, 04:44 PM Yeah, this the time where I'm going to have to find that episode in my "CHEERS" unlabeled tapes. The only tape I have labeled is called, "Lilith episodes" Hehe! Oh and there's this other tape that says, "Diane Chambers Day"
But I loved the food fight and the part where Diane is outside knocking on the door and Carla won't let her in!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v34/TroyandLindseyFan/bwahaharoll.gif
barwars 11-20-2004, 07:09 PM The food fight, Diane's expression, and Carla not letting Diane in were all great.
I also liked the competition for the TV.... and when Diane said something like "weren't they wearing different colors before" and someone (I think it was Sam) came back with "they change at halftime"
ChambersVsMalone 11-22-2004, 04:28 PM lol, GOD I love this one.
I was watching parts of it last night off my tape when looking for another episode.
I agree, the way Diane says "STOPTHISIMMEDIATELY" is so funny lol. And the food fight scene is classic. Sam putting the potatoes off the wall on Frasier's plate, Norm and Carla arguing over the peas, Vera getting hit with a pie, and of course, Diane getting hit with food in the middle of her speech. I love the look on Sam's face after he hits her lol, like he's so proud of himself.
And I love the fight for the TV! How everyone kept turning it lmao. Was it Norm and Cliff that kept getting it turned away from them? lol too funny.
CheersChild4life 11-22-2004, 08:22 PM I LOVE THIS EPISODE. It is one of the funniest ever. I dunno it's just that thanksgiving is a family time and the people at Cheers celebrating it together just made them more of a family.

I think it was the interaction of everyone outside of the bar that made it really funny! Like when Lilith and Frasier invited Sam and Diane over for dinner...that was hilarious!
tiff7 11-23-2004, 03:35 PM Is there a site w/caps from this episode? I really miss Tom's Comedy Quotes sooo much-it had AWESOME pictures of each character & group pics. Actually, when Diane came 2 Carla's house, Carla screamed then she closed the door on Diane. That episode is my fave ep of Cheers! Are Nick @ Nite/TV Land gonna show that ep on a turkey day marathon? I really would like 2 c that ep again! :)

slackermonkey 11-23-2004, 03:43 PM Yep, it'll be part of TV Land's Thanksgiving marathon.
It's also playing in syndication on Wednesday.
tiff7 11-23-2004, 03:47 PM Thanks Slackermonkey! What time will that ep be on?
Tiff7
slackermonkey 11-23-2004, 03:50 PM Which one?
I don't know when it airs during the TV Land marathon. You'll have to check the TV Land schedule in the General Sitcoms Questions and Discussion board.
As for the syndicated one, it airs at 4pm in my area, but I'm sure it's not the same for you.
Petrie Malone 11-23-2004, 05:31 PM This episode is one of my favorites and IMO, one of the best of the series. The physical comedy scene is up to "I Love Lucy" standards!
Chambers 11-23-2004, 05:31 PM So...what's everybody doing for Thanksgiving?

Going to my uncle's for dinner, where I'll be anxiously awaiting the Seinfeld "reunion" to air.

Wow that is exactly what I'm doing. Expecially waiting for the Seinfeld thing.
slackermonkey 11-23-2004, 05:56 PM I'm spending mine at my brother's new house in the glorious boondocks of north Texas. Life is good.
Then, once I get home, I'll be watching The Seinfeld Story.
I haven't seen "Thanksgiving Orphans" in so long, it'll almost be like a new episode for me, so I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
tiff7 11-23-2004, 05:59 PM Watching the Macy parade, eating & putting up christmas stuff, & hanging out my family. :)

Chambers 11-23-2004, 06:22 PM I'm going to have a Thanksgiving much like the Cheers people did. My friends (who also have family abroad and can't go home) and I are going to get together and have a poor equivalent of a Thanksgiving dinner. We're going to make all the food ourselves...so I hope it turns out ok. I probably won't be online much during the next few days. And probably won't be watching TV either...if only other colleges would provide their students with good TV reception. Pssh.
slackermonkey 11-23-2004, 06:26 PM We have a Thanksgiving like that in our family, too -- everyone either brings something or we all make the food ourselves. It's kind of cool, in a way.
Shelley 11-23-2004, 06:27 PM Two of my sisters and their familes are coming to visit and stay for Thanksgiving with us.
Moondance 11-23-2004, 09:55 PM My mom prepares the food for Thanksgiving...I don't cook, so I'll just watch the parade and have a FRASIER marathon, haha!
tiff7 12-02-2004, 05:45 PM Is there a site w/pics from this episode? (You knew I would ask this didn't u everybody?)

Tiff, we'll post any new pictures we find on the main gallery. I know you like pictures, but there's no need to ask for them all the time. Rest assured: if we find them, we'll post them.

Please stop. We've all seen the cover art. Don't post it again.
Signed,
EVERYONE from the Cheers board.
slackermonkey 03-09-2005, 11:13 PM You know this is getting bad when it's not only posted multiple times, but in threads it has absolutely nothing to do with.
