I've been wanting to start this thread for a few weeks, but I wanted to have my list completely prepared, and I still think I'm missing stuff.

List all the stuff you have of your favorite artist, not just the music, but any other collectible items. Share the level of your obsession with the group.

My favorite artist is Prince. I didn't list everything, but this is most of what I own from him.

Thanks, you could say I'm obsessed. Have you collected more stuff when you were younger, like the pins and buttons? It was easy for us in the 80's, both Journey and Prince were at their commercial peak back then. It was easier to find items.

I have a couple of buttons and pins that I've had since the height of Purple Rain that I have to look for, I'm not sure where they are. I've got all this stuff but I haven't set up any sort of organized shrine. I have records over here, magazines over there. In looking over my collection to compile this list, I realized that a cd I recently ordered through ebay, I already had it and didn't know it.

Yeah, a lot of the stuff is from the 80's. Some of the albums I found at swap meets. What I really want is an album autographed by all the members of the group, but they are hard to get on ebay.

I have all the Beatles songs on various CDs that I've burned. But, I haven't bought any of the albums on CD because I've heard that Michael Jackson gets the royalties for the songs because he owns the rights to the Beatle's songs. Actually, I just remembered I do have a copy of the White Album on a record.

Gotta add the White Album record to the list.

that's what I was wondering too. Not every artist owns the rights to their own recordings. Paul will always make something off every Beatles sale regardless, it's just that MJ owns the rights to the publishing the same way Paul McCartney owns the rights to Buddy Holly's music, and also owns his own solo recordings.

You'd find it asinine if a Buddy Holly fan said "I refuse to buy any of his cd's because Paul McCartney will be getting some of my money from this", right? The same thing is how it looks over MJ and The Beatles. Plus, anyone between the ages of 20-40 is a liar if they said they didn't give MJ one penny of their money in their lifetime (unless they're hardcore death metal fans, country fans or punk rockers... and even then, they might've all bought Thriller, haha).

I've never spent a penny on anything Michael Jackson was even remotely involved in, but I was always a metal head, and, more importantly, cheap.

I guess I've got something you don't have. Not that it's a rare item or anything, but I have the 12" of Angel b/w Into The Groove, which I bought mainly to get Into The Groove at the time.

yea, I am surprised that Sire never considered "re-releasing" the Like A Virgin album in 1985 to put Into The Groove on it (considering these days everything gets re-released), since it never made the Desperately Seeking Susan soundtrack (one exists, but it's only the instrumental keyboard music that played in certain scenes as opposed to a full-fledge soundtrack with Madonna, Carly Simon, Aretha, The Fixx and Run-DMC amongst others who were played in the film). ITG is on the picture disc LP (UK pressing, not US) I have of Like A Virgin and I wonder how many more copies would've sold for that song alone. I personally think that song is better than any of the tracks that actually made the final album (outside of Material Girl, Over And Over and Dress You Up, I do not like the Like A Virgin album at all, especially when compared to her three other albums of the 1980's) and the presence of Into The Groove would've boosted it IMO. The real let-down was with the handling of the 2001 remasters of the first three albums which each contained two 12" remixes, nothing more or less. Warner should've put ITG, Gambler and Crazy For You on the remastered Virgin because in 1984-1985, she was saving her best songs for the movies instead of her albums IMO.

When this was bumped a few weeks ago, it renewed my desire to find an authentic Purple Rain movie poster, which I got in the mail today via an eBay auction. Now I have posters for all four of Prince's films. Now all I need are frames and some place to hang them.
