I recently saw one of the black and white Petticoat Junctions from the first season and saw what I think was Fred Ziffel's first appearance. He was a pig farmer named Fred Ziffel who Uncle Joe was trying to sell cologne to. The scene took place at Fred's pig farm but no Arnold. He did still however have names for his pigs. He called one of them Myrtle and another one Alice. But he and Uncle Joe were talking about Fred's wife (who did not appear in the episode) and they called her Ruthie. I was screaming at the Tv "Her name is Doris!" Later on I think Barbara Pepper appeared in PJ as Mrs Ziffel before Green Acres but wonder whether they changed her name to Doris when they switched to GA or when she appeared on PJ.

I believe this ep is on one of the Petticoat Junction dvds we have. It's a good ep...

I've never seen the the black & white episodes of Petticoat Junction! I wish they would show them on t.v.
