Please you guys are all so smart can you tell me why my defrag isn't working? I have Windows XP and it will only go 1% . What's wrong?!:confused: :crazy:

is it still going? if you haven't run it in a long time and you have a large hard drive, it will take a considerably long time to get past the "analyzing data" and "compressing files" stages...

let it run for awile and see if it will eventually continue, if it does nothing after roughly 45 minutes to an hour, try to run a Disk Cleanup (on the accessories menu) and run the error checking tool (go to the "Run" command on the Start Menu, type in "cmd", then at the command prompt type in "CHKDSK C:" and enter) - you may need to reboot first, and you may even want to try it in Safemode (tap the F8 function key as you are booting up and choose Safemode from the menu)

just one more question, it IS the C: drive you are trying to DEFRAG isn't it?

Mine won't do Disk Cleanup so I have to go around it in a different way...and then you wonder why Bill Gates gets so many e-mails:mad: :rolleyes:

Well, it is working(slowly). Up to 85% now!:lol: It has taken at least three hours to do so! Guess I was impatient!:crazy:

I usually defrag before I go to bed so I don't go :crazy: and impatient.
The way I do Disk Cleanup is: my computer-> presario-> properties-> tools-> error checking-> check now

The time flies though,last time I checked it said I didnt do one for 92 days!!

What I hate the most is WHEN IT KEEPS RESTARTING!!

Im not doing anything and it restarts constantly..........

Before I was told to update CCCleaner program, I had the defrag thingy...it's gone now and doing the update made all the difference.
