View Full Version : Has Anyone Else Noticed?
Tonyd 11-17-2004, 06:50 PM How Ward and June just barge into the boys room, seemingly whenever they want? I know they give a little token knock, but never wait for Beaver or Wally to say "come in."
My parents never invade my space like that. Maybe this is another instance where the times have changed, like saying "yes sir." :D
SDGirl90 11-17-2004, 07:59 PM I have noticed that a lot too Tonyd, and my parents never do that either. I think it is just that the times have changed! :)
In one recent episode Beaver actually had the door locked, and I was surprised to learn that the room even had a lock!
HaskellGirl 11-17-2004, 08:33 PM My parents never did that either...not that they could, since my door was always usually locked!!

Mine is usually locked too HaskellGirl! :D
Maybe that was because in a show that airs for only about 22 minutes they didn't want to spend time on the extra dialog it would have taken each time if the door had been locked. Just a thought. ;)
duluthduke 11-18-2004, 12:14 PM I agree about the boys' lack of privacy. Even though I am older than a lot you, my parents never barged into my room either.
desilu #1 11-18-2004, 06:20 PM I also agree with the lack of privacy and my parents never did that to me either...UNLESS I gave them a reason. I think it is another example of different times. Now I have a question for you younger kids here....Did you ever notice the times that Wally and Beaver went into their parents room on a few occassions without even asking? One time is when they didn't have any black stuff to put under Beaver's eyes when he and Wally started that football team, so they used some of June's mascara and June and Ward never knew it until he was wearing it. Another time is when Beaver got into June's makeup to cover up a few freckles. Oh and lets not forget the time Beaver went in to get some of June's powder to put on the baby rabbits. Oh and the worst one is where Beaver allowed that bum in Ward and June's bathroom! I know my butt would have been very sore if I ever thought about entering my parents bedroom without knocking and certainly without their permission or knowledge! I never understood why Beaver and Wally were never told that their parents room was off limits. Talk about an invasion of privacy!
Tonyd 11-18-2004, 06:31 PM That is a good point that I hadn't thought of desilu #1. My siblings and I would never think of rummaging around in our parents room without permission. It seems like Beaver and Wally thought nothing of it, which was strange! :D
HaskellGirl 11-18-2004, 08:14 PM I guess that's where my family is different...all 3 of us kids usually have our door closed, or even locked, when we are inside. However, my parents NEVER lock their door...and we have always been completely free to go in their bedroom whenever we wanted. Even now, they can be sleeping and we are allowed to go into their bedrooms and get somethng from their closet if we want.
I have a feeling that when I have kids, it'll be the same, because that's what I'm used to.
desilu #1 11-18-2004, 08:21 PM Not to offend you but it sure sounds like a double standard. You can go into your parents room but they can't go into yours?
I had pretty much free access to my parents bedroom. I'm glad too. It made our family feel close. We all ived in the same house. It was nice that we all felt relatively free in our own home.
I used to shut, but not lock, my bedroom door. If my parents wanted to talk to me or tell me it was time for dinner or something they would knock, call my name and then wait for my reply. Once in awhile one or the other of them might not wait for my reply. It didn't matter though. I can't remember very many times when I was foolish enough (when they were home, lol) to be doing something I didn't want them to know about . If I wanted to misbehave when I was home, I always had the good sense to hold off until they weren't home. ;)
I never brought a bum home though, who took a bath in my parents bathtub and took one of my dad's suits with him after his bath. Poor Beaver. Always trying to do the right thing, but often times failinig miserably.
HaskellGirl 11-18-2004, 08:40 PM Its not a double standard in my opinion. My parents could go into my room if I wasn't in it. Its just that when I was in it, I would usually keep the door closed or locked.
The thing you have to remember is, at least this was the case at my house, is that kids live in their bedrooms. Parents usually don't. They live in the living room and kitchen and den, etc. But for kids, their bedroom is their haven. For my parents, their bedroom is where they slept. I think its a very different thing.

That is a good point too HaskellGirl! In my house I live in my bedroom but my parents use theirs mainly for sleeping. :D
desilu #1 11-18-2004, 08:52 PM I guess what everyone fails to remember is that just because they are just your parents it doesn't mean that they are dead. Without getting too specific they can do more than sleep! This is all I'm going to say on this subject, I've made my points.

At least I wasn't. I only meant that if their door was open and say, one of my siblings was using the other bathroom, for example, I would freely walk into my parents bathroom and use it. I would never barge in on my parents when they were in their bedroom with their door closed.

HaskellGirl 11-18-2004, 09:03 PM Well, its not like we go into their bedroom at midnight or anything! I don't know, maybe my parents are just more discrete than others...which is fine by me!:D
Tonyd 11-18-2004, 09:08 PM This is turning into a pretty suggestive thread for LITB! :bump
HaskellGirl 11-18-2004, 09:25 PM I know!!! Who'da thought LITB could stir up such topics!!!
Tundra Wolf 11-18-2004, 09:31 PM I actually never noticed this... have you ever noticed how when Beaver or Wally is on the phone and when they hang up, June or Ward is like "Who was that?" then it's like "What did they want?" Yeah, they had a lack of privacy.
desilu #1 11-18-2004, 09:32 PM Ok I can't resist getting in on this one! We all know that Ward and June did more than sleep! Look at the way Ward said Ohhh La La about June's blouse!

I know!! I really wish that Beaver or Wally would say "None of your business!" I mean, sometimes they would say "oh, nobody" and "it wasn't anything", but it did get annoying.
Which reminds me. One time when I was younger, I yelled at my parents for opening my mail. I told them it was a federal offense. And even so many years later, they still think "we can't open her mail, she'll get mad". But at this point, living away from home at my college...I WANT them to open my mail that's sent home and let me know if its anything important.
Tonyd 11-18-2004, 09:54 PM June is particularly bad about wanting to hear everything they say on the phone!
That's funny about your parents and your mail HaskellGirl! I will have to use the "Federal Offense" thing on mine if they try it!

1954Boomer 11-19-2004, 08:29 AM Although it has been MANY years since I was Beaver or Wally's age, to the best of my knowledge my parents never barged in on me either.

I have noticed that and I don't think it's very nice for Ward and June to listen in on the boys phone calls. It's a total invasion of their privacy.
vze3t9q9 11-22-2004, 03:45 PM I can understand JUne. My mom dealing with phone calls was somewhat like that. I don't think she was nosy just curious what I was doing. Making sure it wasn't anything I shouldn't be doing.
The only way I could have a private phone call was to get a long cord and sit in another room. I wasn't about to say to mom or dad could you leave the room. So they heard most everything I said. As for my bedroom, I was a flight up and my mother visited my room maybe 3 times a year. She'd holler up the stairs if she wanted me.
