I just found out that the Rockerfeller Christmas tree will be lit on November 30. November?!? It used to be lit in the first week of December! What the heck?

That's too soon. I seem to recall a few years ago when they lit it late in the season due to energy or electricity issues or something. I could have dreamt that though.

They cut that thing more than a week ago. It's what, 25-50 feet tall? How do they expect it to still be fresh when it actually is Christmas?

Yeah... I heard that as well. It was lit on December 3rd last year. :rolleyes:

It's just like on tv, they are already airing Christmas comercials and it isn't even Thanksgiving yet.

I hate how commercialized this holiday has gotten.

To me, November 30th isn't that early. At least they had the respect to wait until after Rememberance Day.

My husband (The Infamous bat killer) put our Christmas lights up outside just after Halloween because the weather was so mild. Why wait to do it in 30 degree weather? But we do not turn the lights on until the day after Thanksgiving. For me that is the start of the Christmas season! I like to drag it out.:D

Pure genius! A few people I know have already started doing the same, but I haven't seen any Xmas lights yet, so we're good to go.

I was in a Kmart back in September and they had Xmas stuff up already! It was 90+ degrees outside that day, to boot. :rolleyes:

Our local Meijer store takes down all the Christmas decorations and stuff 1 week before Christmas and replaces them with the Spring and Summer yard tools and lawnmowers.
They put Christmas stuff out before Halloween and then remove everything BEFORE Chriistmas! GEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad:

At the store I used to work at they had all of the Halloween stuff down the night of Halloween and had all of the Christmas stuff up the day after Halloween.

On November 10th I was driving home from work and someone had Christmas decorations up and lit already!

Several people do it here... it bugs the **** out of me.

Our town Christmas tree is already in the square. It gets lit on Friday.

They're lighting the tree in November?! Ahh I hate when they do that because it doesn't feel like Xmas yet.. I can't wait until they light the tree because it's so pretty and I just love the whole ceremony.. :D

It's not Christmas unless it's -50 degrees and snowing. That's my own personal rule. I made it up just now, and I intend to enforce it.

I would recomend that you tell your Kmart manager to take down all Christmas supplies until the first snow. If the snow melts before the big day, they must put it all back into storage until it snows again. I am prepared to use deadly force, if necsessary. Or even if it isn't necsessary... just to have some fun! :crazy:

Mmmm... If I hold my city to those rules... we may not have a traditional Christmas...

I think it's more for the NBC special than anything.

Anyways.... the Christmas season begins November 1st, IMO.

LOL! It's November 17th up here in the upper Midwest and we STILL don't have snow on the ground. We haven't had snow all month, surprisingly. We're not expecting snow til Thanksgiving day, of all days, and that's at the end of the month. :lol:

Do you ever see those houses that have ridiculous Christmas decorations ALL over? There's this one house in a nearby town that is famous for having ALOT of Xmas decorations.. it's crazy.. the guy was in the newspaper a couple times for it.. maybe I can find a picture of it..

It's a shame. It seems to me we should spend more time observing our gratitude for what we have, rather than rushing from one holiday to the next. Life's hectic enough throughout the year, as it is.

Thanksgiving may just be the most important holiday to celebrate. The fact that it is ignored by the businesses is reason enough for me to observe it gratefully.

Same here. There's some christmas light contest every year and he always wins. seems like he adds more lights every year too. and he always puts this star on some antenna thing.

I can't wait til i have this house to myself so i can cover the entire thing with all kinds of crazy lights and decorations so i can leave them up ALL YEAR and turn them on EVERY NIGHT. the idea of that and how wack the citizens will think i am is just hilarious.

Ugh that does drive me nuts! My family and I do a light tour every year where we go see mansions and things that have all the decorations. We see this house every year that we call "The Griswald House." It reminds me of that movie so much. They even have lights placed on the ground and everything.
