LOS ANGELES – UPN president Dawn Ostroff announced yesterday that its freshman sitcom “Second Time Around” will be yanked from the prime time Monday schedule for six weeks, beginning on December 4th.
The show, about a divorced couple, played by Nicole Parker and Boris Kodjoe, hasn’t fared well in the ratings, averaging under 2 million viewers on the rating scale provided by Nielsen Media Research. It averaged about a 1.5 since its debut in September.
Ostroff emphasized that although UPN has pulled the show, “Second Time Around is by no means cancelled. We have faith in the show and believe it just needs some fine tuning.
In the interim, UPN has to decide which one of its midseason replacements will fill the time slot.
In the wings are two sitcoms, “Cuts”, the “One On One” spin-off starring Marques Houston (“You Got Served”) and Shannon Elizabeth (“American Pie”) and “The Bad Girl’s Guide” with Jenny McCarthy and Traci Bingham.
Ostroff wouldn’t say which one was replacing “Second Time Around” but insiders think “Cuts”, a show revolving around barbershop/beauty salon co-owned by Houston and Elizabeth, would be a natural to follow “One On One”, the show its spun off from; “Half & Half” which is currently at 8:30 could move to 9:30, the current home of “Second Time Around”.
