You know, I never really liked that episode. I think it's because Jellybean gave me the creeps and he is so obnoxious. But I watched it the other day because I wanted to hear the brownie quote by Sally: "I always like my brownies well done!"

Anyway, I couldn't get over how familiar Jellybean's voice sounded to me. He sounded just like Gargamel from the Smurfs, I thought! so I looked up the guest star, Paul Winchell, online. Sure enough it turns out that he did the voice to tons of cartoon characters, including Gargamel, and Tigger, and a bunch of others.

He had a kids' show on Saturday mornings with a few different character dummies. I just thought I would share that. I think it is really neat. Does anyone remember seeing his show?

Paul Winchell and his "dummies", Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smiff were big in the 1950's and early 1960's. Among other things, they did the transition sequences in the 1960 Three Stooges compilation movie "Stop, Look and Laugh." In the late 70's-early 80's Paul Winchell, who had long dabbled in medical research, developed a prototype for an artificial heart.

My sister and I used to watch his show when I was little, although I don't remember any of the details.

In the early 80s Robert Klein did a routine about Paul Winchell making his artificial heart talk, it was pretty funny.

Paul Winchell was very famous in the 50s and 60s. As a kid, I remember seeing him on "The Ed Sullivan Show."

"Talk to the Snail" will always have a special place in my heart because this was the first TDVDS episode I saw!

Oh, well. I know it was one of those. It was during the Alan Brady Show week TV Land had last summer. :D

Yes, it is not such a bad episode. After watching it again, I discovered I really like it! After all, it is the first time Alan Brady visits their office - "I give you everything..a water cooler, a filing cabinet, -is that a window? - a WINDOW! and what thanks do I get?"
Not to mention the classic poem, "Keep a goin'" which cracks me up!

Did you ever see the movie "Nashville"? Henry Gibson plays a country singer. At a concert he plays one of his big hits--"Keep a Goin'" !

Talk to the Snail is one of my favorite episodes! I always thought that Jellybean was so obnoxious. And then I remember that he was just a puppet. lol Paul Winchell sure made him come alive for me.

I like when Rob takes the phone call from Jellybean and says he wants to talk to Claude. "Come ON Jellybean. I know he's there!"

I don't remember seeing the show in its original run, but I remember seeing it in reruns on a local station in the mid 60s. It was called "THE WINCHELL-MAHONEY SHOW" and he played a guy named Winchell-I don't think they ever gave him another name. He was a bachelor and I think he had a girlfriend. It was a kids show and his two dummies, Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smif played his two sons (who I remember called him "Winch" instead of Dad)

yea, I remember seeing him on "THE LUCY SHOW" once back around 68 or so.
