You know it's a slow day when I'm asking lame questions like this, lol.

It's only me and my husband, so I wash dishes by hand. Otherwise, I'd run out of certain items all the time.

When we have company for dinner or on holidays, I use the dishwasher and always use Cascade. I think dishwashers clean better and are more sanitary than handwashing, but I wash them very thoroughly with very hot water and Dawn.

Who does the dishes in your house or who loads and empties the dishwasher?

I don't have an electric dishwasher so I have to use the manual, that I have to crank up, check the oil frequently and not push her buttons too much so it doesn't fry!

Also, I don't have much to wash since we use disposable plates

Dishwasher. Washing by hand is probably the worst possible chore you can do.

Washer. Few years ago when my mother worked nights Dad put me in charge of doing the dishes. They always told me to rinse them and clean them off well before I put them in the washer since it was old and not as strong as the newer ones, but I never did. So glad I dont do that anymore. I wouldnt. Touching dirty water honestly brings a lump to my throat, and then it gets under your nails and it smells puke:. When I washed, if I couldnt find the gloves, I used baggies to cover my hands.

Dishwhat? Sorry, don't have a dishwasher and never had one growing up. I was forced to clean dishes the old fashioned way. It's not so bad, though. I doubt I'm ever going to get one when I'm older since I've been cleaning dishes by hand for so many years. It's hard to get used to new technology. :o

We have a dishwasher. Usually my mom loads it, or my dad, sometimes I will. It's my sister's chore to unload it everyday. She never does until like 10 at night and my mom hasta remind her continuously to do it. Major pain in the ass.

Half and half.

We didn't even have a WORKING dishwasher in our last place. So...We take advantage of that...We didn't have a working one for 10+ years.

All our dishwasher-safes go in the dishwasher and we wash the pots and pans by hand. :)

I wash dishes by hand. I don't like using dishwashers. When I'm over at another person's place whether it be a cousin's or friend's place I don't like dishwashers. I just don't think they clean dishes as well as actually washing them by hand in the sink. But, that's just my opinion. ;) I only have one sink in my house, though. In my old house I used to have two sinks. Having only one sink sucks.

Half and Half; usually to save money and not to have an enormous water bill, I wash my dishes my hand, which I hate with a passion.

Both. Plates, silverware, and cups go in the dishwasher, all others go in the sink and get washed by me or mom.

My parents never had a dishwasher, it was mom and me, I can't recall if the first house we
bought when I was married had one, and then the apts and condo I lived in I don't remember for sure, but to waste all that water on few dishes, and washing dishes is kinda like a therapy. As I say, Keep It Simple.

Dishwasher

Going on 18 years later and I still feel the same way, but even more amplified now that I have my own house. If a dishwasher is in good condition and in proper working order, it absolutely cleans dishes better than by hand. The water temperature in dishwashers gets much hotter than one would use in a sink by hand, which effectively sanitizes a lot better. Not to mention I don't have time to stand there and wash my dishes by hand.

We use the dishwasher, but when our daughter moves out then we'll have to wash the dishes ourselves.

True we wouldn't want a deadly germ left on a dish, how the Heck have I lived so long washing by hand ????? You have germy foods? Sounds like sanitary is a big one in your life....reminds my of the movie, The Odd Couple....

You do realize plates are touched and that we use utensils to eat which go in our mouth and then back toward the dishes and that are mouths are full of bacteria? Hell, why bother washing the dishes at all? Just put them back in the cupboards when you're done! Brilliant as always, dear.

Oh you just sound germ phobic...we need some degree of germs to keep our immune systems in good working order. Unless one is licking up the floor I fear no germs and then I wonder. Me I worry about the unknowns the medical world injects into our bodies.

I've moved around several times, and by my recall, I had a dishwasher in 4 of those locations, and just a sink in 5 locations.

It never bothered me having to wash by hand, but I always appreciated the spotless glasses using cascade in a dshwasher.

When I was living in a family setting, we always washed every evening. When I was living alone, I tended to accumulate dishes in the sink thru the week, and then popped them in the dishwasher after I accumulated a full load. I excused this by claiming the dishes in the sink were in "pre-soak" mode. Learned the hard way that Calphalon cookwear is not compatible with extended soaking while also in close proximity to bacon grease.

Had a friend who took the "pre-soak" mentality to an extreme. In addition to accumulating a full kitchen sink, he would move excess dirty dishes to the bathtub. And I mean so many that he would have to spread dishes out of the way, to clear two foot holes to stand while showering. One of the grossest things I've ever known. I could never even eat there, when invited, because I'd draw this visual of him standing over the casserole dish while lathering up. too gross to even imagine.

He also had this bad habit where he had this really nice, big dog. And after my buddy would finish a meal, he'd put the plates down on the floor so the dog could lick them clean. Makes me heave just thinking about it.

Just because I don't take pride in being a filthy person doesn't make me a germaphobe. But it wouldn't be present day Sitcoms Online without you having to center yourself in every situation! I literally quoted MYSELF and you had to jump in with your judgment and nutty nonsense, LOL.

I've kind of had a metamorphosis in my thinking about pets. Personally I no longer think that it's appropriate to keep an animal chained, or locked-in. I had several pets previously, all the usuals......but I've just changed in my thinking.

I had a Siamese cat at one time that would lay on my torso as I laid on the couch watching TV ...but never in bed. Damn cat would occasionally spot a mouse wandering across the floor, and really dig in with his claws when he "launched" to pounce on it. Used to really smart.

But now days all my "pets" are wild critters that have become habituated to me...knowing I'm not any threat. Which is very rewarding to me when one of them suddenly alerts to some other approaching human, and communicates the potential threat to me.

People really underestimate the intelligence of generic wildlife. One we make a habit of confusing obedience with intelligence, and number two you have to establish a rapport with them on their level.

Once you do that, it's amazing the things they'll tell you.

I also prefer keeping the critters wild so that if some day I no longer show up, they'll be able to take care of themselves.

Sadly true, every word of it.

When I first questioned him about the dishes, pots and pans in the tub, his reply was that "Kramer on Seinfeld does it" and he was implying that I just had not tuned into the genius of the strategy aka "get with it, all the kool kids are doing it" etc And was completely unphased when I pointed out the Kramer character was a joke.

The licking the plates clean I'm sure was just thrift. This guy had an obsession in pinching pennies. So in his mind, I'm sure he figured washing those calories down the drain, when he could be giving them to fido....was waste. That way he could save a few pennies on dog food

I kid you not
