you can watch that series on TV?

In some cases, I don't buy TV shows that I can watch on TV as opposed to buying them on DVD. In the past, I have bought a the first two season sets of Sanford & Son along with the first season of Green Acres, and I stopped watching those two sets in the middle because I've see some of the episodes airing over and over on TV Land and I have tendency get sick of them. I can understand if you want unedited episodes on DVD, which is the only exception for me to buy a show on DVD that I really like. As for me, when I buy TV-DVD's I look for shows that I can not usually see on TV or I haven't see awhile. DVD is like another outlet for me to see series that I can not see on TV. They give me the oppurtunity to taste and sample series that I may not have caught or seen on TV before, the majority of my collection is not on TV. Even some of my favorites series I don't but on DVD because they are airing on TV.

Yes but it depends. If it's an old TV series from the 50s to the 80s, I would buy it regardless of whether it's on TV. I wouldn't buy any TV show from the 90s to the present unless it hasn't been aired on TV often.

No, because yeah you see it on tv, but most shows are so cut up as it is. I buy the DVDs to get them uncut.

It's a chance to see them the way they were meant to be seen, whenever you want, and looking better than you'd see them on TV (in most cases, anyway).

:nod: Yep my Boy Meets World Season 1 DVD the picture and sound were much better than I've seen on tv. TV takes away something IMO :)

As others have said already, watching a show uncut on a DVD is a totally different animal than watching a show on television. In addition to many shows being cut in syndication, DVDs mean no commercials, no network bugs and being able to watch whichever episode you want whenever you want.

Hasn't happened for me yet. If it's a show I like that much, I'll want to own it, regardless of how many times I'm able to see it on tv. The only show for me that comes close to one being on tv heavily is Three's Company. I've seen those episodes a hundred times, never get tired of them, watch them on TVLand and watch them on dvd. I love the show, which equals, I want the dvd. Watching episodes on tv never discourages me from wanting the dvd. I haven't been much into watching older/syndicated shows on tv in recent years anyway, so the fact that a show is broadcast on tv often is the last thing that would keep me from buying a dvd.

I agree. If I love the show, I want to own it to watch whenever I want. Because let's face it, syndication is disposable. Shows can get pre-empted, dropped or changed to another time/channel that's inconvenient. The DVDs are for keeps.

I haven't met many people who let what shows are on TV influence what they buy on DVD. If anything, it's the other way around -- once people buy the DVDs, there's no longer any reason to watch the inferior televised versions.

I became a fan of Friends and within a week I bought the first two seasons.... I now have 6 and haven't watched it in syndication since. (this was all the week of the finale)

i became a fan of that 70s show this past summer and rushed out to buy the first season

all depends on the show. Something like Cosby I can hold back a bit before DVD, because I like it but it's not my all time fave, but Roseanne, I'd gladly buy so I'd never have to watch it on Nick or Oxygen

Only if the show is being aired UNCUT. I didn't buy Good Times season 3 on DVD because TV ONE aired the entire season the way CBS aired it in the 70's. So i didn't have to spend my money
