Guys,

Do yourself a favor and see an incredible movie that was released in 1988 called Stand and Deliver. It tells the true story of Jamie Escalente, an amazing teacher who inspired his students, many of them classified as underachievers, from an East Los Angeles High School to overcome racial and ethic barriers to pass an Advanced Placement Exam in Calculus. Issues of overcoming the odds, racial predjudice, and discrimination, are dealt with in this movie with great passion and insight. Teachers have even shown this film to students and it is brilliant on all counts! It's on the HBO channels this month. The best moticational movie that I have ever seen! See it!

MAY BE SPOILERS BELOW....QUESTIONS I HAVE ABOUT THE MOVIE.

For those who have seen the movie, does anyone know how much of it is different than the real life story? Interviews with Esclante say that he worked as a consultant on the film, and that over 90% of the movie is accurate. Does anyone know the 10% that isn't accurate?

There were two people in the movie that are listed in the movie as being "In Memorendum." I wonder how they died? The birth dates were like 1971-1987 Does anyone know the names of the students in the credits who are listen "In Memorendum"? As this movie is set around Mr. Escalante's AP Calculus Class of 1982, it was very respectable of the producers to memorialize the students. The thing is, this movie is so good that you feel like you are right there with Escalente and his kids! It's a beautiful inspirational film. It has the look and feel of a documentary.

In the real version, I wonder if any of his students didn't pass the test. Any information or updates that anybody has would be appreciated.

Jack

I saw this movie when it first came out & it was excellent. Lou Diamond Phillips & Edward James Olmos were very good in this movie.
