A relative question, we don't get too many over here in the US, but maybe someone could recommend something to me. I love Young Ones and Bottom alot, Monty of course (OK, not a 'Com' proper), and Fawlty, Keeping Up too.

Joking Apart, by Stephen Moffat, who went on to do Coupling. Bad scheduling meant that hardly anybody saw it, though happily it did manage to get a second series. Possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen, and I wish it would get released on DVD. Little chance of that, apparently, because so few people saw it when it was last screened.

The Goodies ...i'm not sure if thisis available ANYWHERE ( But, you said you wanted obscure ), but it was pretty funny...kinda like a Monty Python thing, but with a weekly theme...It played in the 70s as far as i can remember, I've never seen it since

Thanks for the suggestions, they sounds great, likely very very hard to find though, from what it sounds like.

Well, I picked up Brass Eye, watched the first episode last night, pretty bizarre and imaginative.

There are now two Goodies best of collections available on R2 DVD.

"Spaced" seems to get very little mention these days. From the makers of "Shaun of the Dead".

"Executive Stress". Before I ever saw "To The Manor Born", I watched "Executive Stress" and became a huge fan of Penelope Keith.

Fortunately, many of the episodes are available on YouTube (shhh...don't tell anyone!)

Colin's Sandwich, with the late Mel Smith. He works in the British Rail complaints department by day, but he really wants to be a horror writer. Colin overthinks and stresses about everything, and Smith was great in the role.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, I like Mel Smith.

Check out HANCOCK'S HALF HOUR, STEPTOE AND SON, and TILL DEATH US DO PART on YouTube! These should have become better known in the US, except they were just never shown here(They might have been shown in Canada). "Hancock", Albert, and Harold Steptoe especially were brilliantly realized characters, and TILL DEATH will be particularly interesting to ALL IN THE FAMILY devotees.

Someone here mentioned "Colin's Sandwich." This was a gem. Pity they only made twelve episodes.

I just found this website (oh the wasted years) and must thank you for the Colin's sandwich suggestion! I'm in the US and found several episodes on Youtube. Watched ep1 and almost pissed myself. As Basil Fawlty might say, his thoughts spit out like some benzedrine puff adder! Absolutely love it. I have all Spaced on DVD and plan to look for a few of the other suggestions, but had to shout. Colin is spot on! Any other ideas? My faves besides Yes Minister and Yes PM, I love Ideal, League of Gentlemen, Psyco, and the UK Shameless. That's my taste, but just about any Britcom from dad's Army to Only Fools & Horses are great too.

Glad you enjoyed it. Another one I like is The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, with Leonard Rossiter. It's from the 70s, used to be on public TV sometimes but my sense is that it hasn't been on in the US much recently.
I didn't mention that but PBS had Reggie in the late 70's I think. I was able to get on DVD and it's as good as I remember; especially when he puts in his pig farmer teeth. "I didn't get where I am today" without knowing a good Britcom. :) I think there was a later reworking of Reggie with good old Martin Clunes (not a Britcom but I devour Doc Martin) as Reggie. I have it but haven't gotten to watch it yet.

I also went on a trip to London in Xmas 79/80 and saw a play in the theater district with Rossiter and Prunella Scales! What is better than Britcom humour on the telly, than Britcom humour live!

I've tried this, I think Netflix or Amazon had it for a while. I didn't think it was near the original, but was watchable and amusing.

I do hope so. I pulled out my "copies" today to give it a try. If anybody could pull it off it is Martin Clunes. I am a huge fan of his in almost everything he has done. Doc Martin got me watching all the Jeeves & Wooster episodes. I know he isn't in them but they have a similar feel; pleasant, humorous, slice of life stories that are quite different from most of the Britcoms. I find them both very endearing and addictive.

I am not sure if these are obscure- but they are smart and funny and worth a look at if your not familiar with:

Black Books
Miranda
Friday night dinner

(You can probably catch on you tube, or other streaming services that feature british comedy- Maybe britbox will pick them up.)

Great! Thanks I know Black Books but the other 2 are new to me. Smart and funny is exactly my wheelhouse. Can't thank you enough. the KODI adapted Firestick has me in heaven. I have not been able to stump it yet. :)

The miserable Victor Meldrew! That was absolutely a great one; he was perfection as the cranky pensioner!
