View Full Version : Any info on Season 4 DVD and the spinoffs?
Edster2973 11-12-2004, 12:28 AM Hello all,
Almost done with the fabulous Season 3 DVD set of Three's Company and I was wondering if anyone had news of when Season 4 was due to come out. Also, there was an announcement that the spinoffs The Ropers and Three's a Crowd were being considered for DVD release. Is there any more news on this? Are they still being considered? If not, I hope someone lets us know...

Still way too early on this. Season 4 is slated for May. So, maybe some news will come in January or so.
Janet Tripper 11-12-2004, 12:35 AM I think Pav would be the only one to know the dates on it but I hope its soon like March or something like that:D!!!! I can't wait to see season 4!!! I think Pav said that if the sales for TC go well they would consider The Ropers and TAC!!! I don't care for TAC at all but I so hope they release The Ropers!!! But I would think that TAC would be release b/4 TR since it has John in it! Hopefully we will get a date on Season 4 soon!! Hopefull it will include more bloopers!!!

Too early for Season 4 perhaps, but is there any word on the spinoffs? Even if there isn't a specific time nailed down, is there a committment at least for the spinoffs to eventually come out? I'd just like to know if it's beyond the stage of being a good idea. I'd love to have those spinoffs added to my collection.
Thanks for responding... :)

Just being a bit greedy I guess... lol... Hey, there was an announcement for Season 2 of The Golden Girls and Season 1 isn't even released yet! :)
I'm more concerned about the spinoffs. I think they should be released and there was mention that they were being considered. I'd like to know if any progress has been made in that area.
Call me greedy... but don't call me Gretchen! ;)

The only thing I can tell you is, it is "quite possible" for the spin-offs.

Darn, I was hoping there was more info than that. Don't get me wrong. I'm excited at the prospect of getting these. The fact that they're even being considered tells me that the Season sets of Three's Company must be doing very well. If they weren't, I'm sure the spinoffs wouldn't be thought of at all. Why release a spinoff that related to a show that's doing poorly in sales, correct?
Maybe they're waiting to see how Season 4 or 5 sells before deciding on the spinoffs, but knowing that the Ropers left after Season 3 to do The Ropers makes me want to see that spinoff series even more. It'd have been nice to be able to buy and see those episodes in the proper order. Oh well, should they be available someday, one can always re-watch them in the proper order then.
For what it's worth, I'm looking forward to The Ropers more than I am Three's a Crowd, although I do like the latter show, especially for its theme song. I remember one episode The Ropers where Helen is thrown a surprise party (I think it was shown on TV Land the weekend they did a tribute to John Ritter when he passed away) and Jack, Janet & Chrissy appear. It almost felt like a regular episode of Three's Company except for the setting (the Roper's apartment).
I'm also eager for Three's a Crowd but since I actually saw that show when it originally aired, it isn't as hazy in memory for me as The Ropers is. When The Ropers aired, I was only 4 or 5 years old, so no way did I ever see it (part of my eagerness for a DVD release has to do with the fact that I've never seen those shows and don't remember the ones that I did see). But Three's a Crowd, as poor a substitute for Three's Company as it was, still was entertaining, especially the feud between Jack & Mr. Bradford, and especially between Mr. Bradford and his ex-wife. Mary Cadorette was also very likeable and wholesome. And I thought E.Z., although somewhat forced as the surfer dude, also had potential. It's too bad it didn't last longer.
Is there anything we can do to let Anchor Bay know that there is interest and support for the spinoffs? It's great that they're considering them, but surely some input from the fans can help to assure them that we do want them released. I'm not sure if they'd sell as much as Three's Company, but I think there's money to be made regardless, and Three's Company won't feel complete without those spinoffs...

Says who? Of course I want the other seasons. That's pretty much a 'duh', but it's looking more and more like the other seasons are a guarantee. Obviously, the other seasons must have sold pretty well for Anchor Bay to even consider releasing the spinoffs, so why not lobby to have them released while the DVD releases of Three's Company are hot?
All I'm suggesting is making an effort to let Anchor Bay know that there is interest in the spinoffs. It could only help us Three's Company fans in the long run. Maybe we'll get more material, like the John Ritter ABC Special we're getting in a couple of weeks. Do I want that particular Special more than I want Seasons 4-8? Of course not, but since it's being offered, I am definitely going to get it. Maybe we'll get some of Suzanne's Specials and other gems that I'm forgetting right now.
After many years of obscurity, Three's Company is coming back with a vengeance. And I want as much as what's available. I'm greedier than Gretchen... ;)

I think jackhammer meant to say we don't need to worry about Three's A crowd until seasons 4-8 of TC are released. Ropers Spinoff is connected to the ending of season 3. Just like TAC is connected to the ending of the series.

I know the connection to the series. I just don't see why it's suggested we wait until the series is fully released. It's better to release them before the full series. If fans are eagerly awaiting Season 4 to come out, but it's not due for a while, and then The Ropers is released months before Season 4, chances are they'd buy that set to tide them over until the next season comes out. The same with Three's a Crowd. This sort of thing happens all the time and it'd get people to buy them who ordinarily wouldn't if their collection is complete. Make sense?

The TAC spinoff being released before seasons 4-8 of TC doesn't make sense but the Ropers being released sometime between the season 3 and season 4 release of TC makes sense.

It doesn't have to be released according to continuity. I just think it makes perfect 'business' sense to release them while people are still hungry for DVD releases. That appetite may wane once the Seasons 7 & 8 are released. I don't want the spinoffs to flop, that's all...

Have you ever seen the Ropers or TAC before?

Three's a Crowd I've seen before but I've only caught an episode or two of The Ropers. I don't remember much about Three's a Crowd but I still want the show, as well as The Ropers.
Yeah, I know they weren't like Three's Company but so what? I don't expect to be enamoured with either series to be quite honest. I even expect to dislike some, if not most of the episodes, but the completist in me wants them all. And my eagerness for episodes of The Ropers stems more from curiousity than anything else. I may end up not liking the show and I know that, but I want to check it out nonetheless. I have an affection for Audra Lindley & Norman Fell and feel they were given a raw deal by Three's Company's producers (they were set up, plain and simple). I think having the DVD release of The Ropers could help in acknowledging their contribution to the show. They've been slighted that's for sure.
Hope this answers your questions...
