It's a sad state of affairs when people like Michael Powell scare ABC affiliates away from airing one of the most acclaimed films of all time. And it's even sadder when it's so close to Veteran's Day and the film in question... honors veterans.

Oh don't feel so bad. Just buy the DVD for $10.00 bucks. The networks won't air the widescreen version or supplimentary extras anyway. :)

Besides, I never watch movies on broadcast or cable television, unless they're shown in widescreen (unless, of course, widescreen isn't the movie's OAR).

I didn't see Stolen Honor yet. Is it new? Or on video? I should check that one out. :)

No, you shouldn't. It's an anti-Kerry documentary made by those dirtbags at Swift Boat Veterans For "Truth."
It's that bad, eh?

No politics. You have been warned.
Jenya 11-11-2004, 02:53 PM Oh well. I didn't tune into much of that stuff anyways. :)

And don't get me wrong - not everything in Fahrenheit 9/11 has proven to be true. But most of it has.
Mr. Television 11-11-2004, 03:10 PM Getting back to the subject of this thread didn't ABC air this movie uncut a few years ago? It seems to me I watched it then.

But in the wake of Janetgate, many affiliates don't want to take the risk and worry about getting fined hundreds of thousands of dollars by the FCC. Can't say I blame them.
Please don't post The FCC Song,

ThirteenInchEscape 11-11-2004, 05:13 PM I ****ing hate the FCC
Censorship is Obscene
Chelsea 11-11-2004, 06:28 PM The most unbelievably stupid thing to come of this though:
One particular affiliate, due to concerns about violence and language, is airing LETHAL WEAPON 3 instead of Saving Private Ryan.
These people...
spunkygirl 11-11-2004, 07:57 PM :cuss: Figures the station I get won't air it :cuss: :livid:
The weird thing is, my cable guide shows it on for tonight on the station here in Columbus that they said wouldn't be airing it
*MIBabe03* 11-11-2004, 08:19 PM Off topic but Angela Micelli I love your avatar! Desperate Housewives rule!

ohno: What a treat.
I heard about this last night and I think it's stupid. If someone doesn't want to see the movie, then change the channel! I can't stand censorship.

Definately. :livid:
Oh, I'm sorry. :(
I like the movie, too, but not everyone has seen it and I don't think they should go changing it around like that. Just let the movie be seen.
The Modfather 11-11-2004, 10:24 PM Im watching SPR right now on ABC, uncut. I saw it 3 years ago, its way better then I remember it.
*MIBabe03* 11-12-2004, 12:16 AM There not showing it where I live.

Censorship is Obscene I've given up watching movies on US networks because there's way too many commercials, but most importantly, their juvenile practices of censoring everything and anything. As for Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan itself, excluding the first half hour, it's pretty much nothing more than a piece of sugary propaganda.

That is my biggest complaint with TBS. And hardly no TV station airs the movies in widescreen format. in the US. I liked Saving Private Ryan, my only beef about that idea of the film is the real story was conducted by British troops, French and American ones. Which this movie never mentioned.
Zebra 3 11-18-2004, 05:22 PM The Americans took Omaha and Utah beaches.
The British took Gold and Sword beaches.
And the Canadians took Juno beach.
