How 'bout just a movie with the real actors? lol. I wouldn't see the movie if it was people I didn't like playing some of my favorite characters, i'm not for new Hollywood.

I think Laura San Giacomo would make a better Laverne.

Haha, Megan Mullally as Shirley Feeney??? I love MEgan, really I do, but why not have Kristen Davis instead? She can play sweet and innocent.

Ewan McGregor - No arguments there, but what about his accent? He's Austrailan!

Eh, about Lenny being played by Christian Slater. Why not Adam Sandler!

Chris Kattan as Squiggy is a good choice.

Frank DeFazio needs to be older than John Goodman...

Patrica Heaton is too young to be Edna, too!

I'll have to think more about the other characters.

I agree with casting Laura San Giancomo as Laverne, even though I'm not a big fan. I could also see Marisa Tomei in the role.

As for Shirley, I could go with Kristin Davis, Maggie Gyllenhall, or Renee O'Connor.

Lenny would have to be played by Ryan Stiles, and Squiggy by Chris Kattan.

How about Jennifer Colliidge as Rhonda Lee?

Vin Deisel as Carmine?

James Gandolfini as Frank DeFazio?

Allison Janney as Edna?

The Rock as Sonny St. Jacques?

Fran Drescher as Rosie Greenbaum?

I agree. Not a big fan of the whole current actors playing classic tv stars thing. I would see the movie, of course...just loath it secretly. :)

*Phew* Someone that agrees! I was afraid that I was one of the only people that would rather see the original people play in a movie about themselves than people that don't even have much experience. I'm sorry but the original cast is not that old. lol.

Nope nope, the original cast isn't too old yet to play themselves. :) The closest thing we'll get to an L&S movie though, I think, is the last reunion show. Then, there was some talk of a movie some years ago, but that went noplace. :( Hm...I'm trying to think of who I would cast, if I had to, and I just can't think of anybody who I would like...so original cast all the way!

Yeah I was so excited when I heard about a possible movie and then I waited, and waited for it to come out and it never did  I think that there is a possibility if there is a big demand but i'm not sure if there would be, that's why I wanted to do that petition thing but i'm not sure if that would work. And yeah, I can't think of anyone that could ever replace any of the original characters; I think it's wrong actually lol How would you have the same humor and memories with someone that possibly never even saw the show, playing the characters? lol.

There was gossip about a "Laverne and Shirley" movie since 1998, I think! Old news;)

I was excited when news of the movie first sprung up, as well. There was a script in the works, and then -- nothin' came of it. Wish there was a better chance of people getting behind a movie with the cast, but I wonder... And I agree -- a lot of these biopics, etc., bring in kids who never even saw the originals and are new to the screen! No-o-o good.

I think it's been around for longer than that, LOL. I read an article once in which Cindy Williams noted that the movie plans had been cancelled. Wish I could remember where that came from.

I think you're right. I remember that article. It was in some sort of balloon state for a while. (Hollywood lingo)

Frank: It's too bad that Vincent Gardenia (Frank Lorenzo on All in the Family, Mr. Mushnick--movie version of Little Shop of Horrors) died. He would've been really good as Frank DeFazio.

Carmine: Acting coach, lots of rehearsal for the accent. If you've ever seen Down With Love remember during part of that movie he used a southern accent when he was pretending to be Zip Martin.

Edna Babish: Patricia Heaton

Laverne: Nancy McKeon

Shirley: Renee Zellweger

If you get the right makeup artists and acting and speech coaches. I think it could work.

No it was around '98, I remember that I think it was supposed to come out like around when The XFiles move came out; not sure but I for some reason am remembering hearing that from Access Hollywood ~ who knows but I really am dissapointed, there needs to be an awesome movie like that; there's like nothing good in the theatres but the new movie Jamie Lee is in and that's only 'cause I like her. lmao. But otherwise, I can't find any other actors worth watching but Jamie and the L&S cast. *shrugs*

Oh I don't know, I just think that there should be a movie with the originals or nothing at all. And I think that the only reason on WHY Hollywood wouldn't want it is 'cause Cindy & Penny aren't all young and wanting to do nude scenes ~ that's all movies are really about now-a-days. lmao. Hollywood is so fixated on women's ages and it really is p!ssing me off.

'98 sounds about right, yep. As far as nothing good being in theaters, I saw The Polar Express and I LOVED it...but there haven't been a lot of other movies as of late that I've been very interested in, either. But Jamie Lee Curtis IS cool. And yep, the actors I follow very closely are mostly in the 50+ category.

I agree that if there were to be a non-bio-pic movie, the original cast would be best. I also agree that Hollywood is oversexed. A movie would have been and would be great, but it's all dependant on everybody's schedules, health, public interest, etc. But yup, a reason like age is a silly factor in deciding such a thing! And yeah, the celebrities seem to get younger and people seem to get more critical...heh...bugs me, too.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean; I think that the movie would have to be in the presentfor the original cast to perform in it ~ that's what I'd love to see, not a bio one; just kinda like them all running in to each other once again.

I can see where you're coming from. Maybe the thing to do should be cast the originals who are still around as parents, aunts and uncles of today's generation.

The more I read everyone's posts the more I realize that the original cast would be better so off to Imagine casting I go. ;)

Yay :D And that's what I thought would be the best way to go about a movie, having the original cast but they can just be more mature; they can still be funny though and whacky ~ you know that once you're fun, you are for life. lol. Usually.

I would suspect you have to keep the age of the actors in proportion to each other, but here are some ideas.

Laverne - Bitty Schram, Laura Prepon, Scarlett Johansson, Natasha Lyonne

Shirley - Winona Ryder, Thora Birch, Mila Kunis, Katie Holmes

I suppose height would have to be a consideration as Laverne is taller than Shirley- and since Katie Holmes is 5'9" she would really only work with someone near her height - like Laura Prepon (who is 5'10").

I can't think of any guys under 35 to play Lenny and Squiggy yet.

Lenny - Will Ferrell
Squiggy - Jack Black

Shirley - Winona Ryder

I like that idea. She can play sweet and innocent.

I don't know if any of you have seen the movie "Lucas" - she was 14 years old in that!

I agree that if there were to be a non-bio-pic movie, the original cast would be best. But i don't think that anyone's interested in Shirley's sewing circle...I think they're all too old. I love them, but they're too old to be interesting.

Well you have your choice, Original cast/Talent, Younger actors/No talent; your choice. And just because the original cast may be a bit older now, that doesn't mean that they can't be funny and do what they used to on the show.

I think the whole original cast is still hip. lol. I don't think that any new actors have any talent what-so-ever.
