Why are there no political threads allowed. It is more of an interesteing topic and more important topic than "what was the last thing you ate"???? Stupid & inane topics that some people make up on here.:rolleyes:

Because people get into fights on the board over politics. We had a political board for awhile, that didn't go well at all.

They are allowed, you just have to know how to do it. Just keep posting things like..., oh, articles and such, that indirectly state your political viewpoint. But you wouldn't want to be a sneaky little weasel, would you?

personally i think that politics should be allowed, but not extremely often. Like its ok once in a while to post political stuff but not every day. Every1 seems to really overreact about it.

but what really makes me pissed is when people yell at others for posting political things and then they themselves do. i've seen that happen a good number of times.

TJ has kindly agreed to allow political statements in our avatars and signatures. That's more than you would get at any other non-political site. If people want to express their political sentiments, take advatage of that avenue.

Peter, the no politics rule is TJ's policy. If you PM him, I'm sure he will explain his reasons.

What I find really amusing is that most of us who were so passionate on the politics board when it was up (me, Jenya, Janice, Kitt, Fleet, etc.) really aren't saying anything political anymore. I guess we learned our lesson :talk:

TJ listed the sites you could go to if you want to talk politics.It even friggan says it in the sticky thread at the top of Chit Chat. I'm still as passionate as ever but I just keep my mouth shut. I visit 4 or 5 other boards where I talk politics. :)

I don't talk politics with any of my friends anymore, online or off. There are two things friends shouldn't discuss: politics and religion.

Peter May, you said earlier this week that these boards are too strict. Whenever anyone who posts here at SO says that, I laugh. The SO online message boards are as lenient as you can get. There are other boards that don't allow 150 x 150 avatars (some don't even allow them at all), URLs, and other stuff we're accustomed to using here. They also generally ban too easily. TJ only does it as a last resort and when someone is suspended/banned he is willing to listen. Other admins don't. Be thankful for SO because you'll see very few boards as big or bigger than these that are as good or better.

The boards have been much better since the No Politics rule. Friendships that deteriorated during the last few months of the Politics board have been mended. Things would only get worse if it wasn't closed.
