It's actually been a pretty warm November so far up here -- normally, high temps would be in the 20 range by now, with a low temp in the single digits. So far, so good -- it'll get down to 18 tonight. Not bad! :D

I want a really major one to hit here, kinda like the one in 1998 where there were some 50 mph winds. I think we got 16 inches of snow that day, but the drifts were 3-4 feet.

Last Valentine's Day we got a really windy snow storm. Only about 1-3 inches fell but I'm pretty sure there were wind gusts to about 60-65 mph in the area.

I'm not happy to say this, but I have a feeling that's how this winter is going to play out for the east. All the forecast models show a large pattern shift in the north late this month- with a blocking high setting up over Greenland. This would be favorable for a rather permanent trough over the East...and lots of cold Arctic outbreaks...

It snowed about an inch just north of here back in February, went up to Alabama's highest peak to see it(2,405 feet). Before that... it had been early 2002 since the last snow and that was only 1-2". Same deal in January and December 2000 and March 2001.

A 4" snow is considered major down here... although only flurries will shut the state down. :rotflmao:

The 2002-2003 winter was the snow event of the century for us- we had like 5 storms including the famous President's Day Storm (dumped like 15"). Then, last year, we had 3" in early December & then it got warm (60's-70's) for the remainder of the month. We never got anymore snow although we had a few ice storms in February...talk about two extremes...

Yes, it is early, and I hope it's not a sign of things to come. We have our occasional White Christmas, which is great, but I don't want to get buried. The last few years we've had lighter snowfall than usual. Up until about 1996, every winter was constant snowstorms, one after the other.

It's nice to look at, for about an hour or until you have to shovel your car out of a 6 ft snowmound.

What irritates me about my Local on the 8's is that our local NWS station does not report precip, so it'll be pouring down raining all across the state and our city will be "cloudy".

Even though usually it only gives an update every 60 minutes, my local weather station (Detroit Metro Airport) updates whenever there is precip. It automatically updates and shows the latest observation when the onset of precipitation occurs.

It's interesting. You're getting your first freeze, but our coastal areas still have yet to get one.

BTW, 29-30 isn't that damaging, NWS calls it a "Light Freeze". Up here, it had to go down to 24-25 before they issued a Freeze Warning.

They issue a Freeze Warning here for the first freeze even if it's just a light freeze because of the tender vegetation and longer growing season down here. They also do it if we have a really late one after warm weather.

A Hard Freeze Warning is issued for the first freeze of lower than 25-26 degrees or a late season one after warm weather.

SATURDAY MORNING. THIS STORM WILL FIRST BRING RAIN TO THE AREA
TONIGHT AND FRIDAY...WITH A CHANGEOVER TO ALL SNOW AROUND MIDNIGHT.
BASED ON THIS SCENARIO...IT APPEARS ONE TO THREE INCHES OF SNOW WILL
FALL. HOWEVER...IF ENOUGH COLD AIR IS PULLED INTO THE STORM...THE
CHANGEOVER FROM RAIN TO SNOW MAY OCCUR EARLY FRIDAY EVENING...WHICH
COULD LEAD TO MORE SNOWFALL THAN IS CURRENTLY EXPECTED. ADJUSTMENTS
TO THE FORECAST MAY BE MADE AS ADDITIONAL DATA BECOMES AVAILABLE.

ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION ON SUNDAY. THIS
SYSTEM IS ALSO EXPECTED TO PRODUCE RAIN INITIALLY...BUT A CHANGEOVER
TO ALL SNOW IS EXPECTED DURING SUNDAY....WITH SNOW SHOWERS
CONTINUING SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS SYSTEM WILL BE CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW AS WELL.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT ANTICIPATED.

It's a bone-chilling 73 degrees out there right now. Time to get out the winter coat!

We made it up to a balmy 72.1 yesterday. :)

A lot cooler today. Bottomed out at 35.8 this morning.

Currently: 47.1 (Officially 46 - NWS)

Temp should rise to about 50 overnight.

Should me nicer tomorrow. Breezy with some t-storms, but really mild...with a high in the 60's!
