In yet another lame attempt to give this board some action (and bombard it with another post from me), I thought I'd set up a thread for reviewing the 8th season DVD.

I've only watched the first two episodes so far, and they look great. Loads of deleted stuff in "The One After 'I Do.'"

I also saw the gag reel, which is hilarious. (I knew there was no way Matthew Perry could get through that "I'm a headhunter..." speech in one take.

And I love the fact that they included Joey's Bamboozled game show as a trivia game!

I have been so busy watching the dvds! I have already watched seven episodes (two of which I have watched twice- once with commentary and once without). I love these episodes! I haven't seen most of these in years.

The One After I Do has been my favorite because, like you said, there is so much deleted stuff in it. That episode ran 28 minutes compared to the 22 minutes it originally aired. My favorite part of that episode is when Rachel tells Monica that the pregnancy is not as important as her wedding and Monica says "Of course not- nothing is!" I love Mon! :lol:

Also, the stuff with Monica and Chandler on their honeymoon was hilarious! I loved when Monica was like "Ahh Oranges!!!" So much for trying to be cool and sneak into the first class lounge. :cool:

And it was so fun to see one of my favorite slapstick moments agin- when Monica gets her head caught between her housekeepers legs. It feels like a modern day ILL when I watch that scene.

It is probably pretty obvious my favorite character is Monica!

Okay, to conclude these DVDs rock! I love season eight and I am so looking forward to seeing the rest of the episodes (one or two of which I have never seen before!)

Bring on season 9 and 10 so I can finally finish my collection!!!! :lol:

I always laugh at that scene. Especially Rachel and her champagne - "That's how the French drink it." Hell, that whole episode is great. Season 8 was a really strong season.

I'm still pissed that the deleted scene with Monica & Chandler getting arrested at the airport isn't included. Apparently, three years later, the slightest similarity to 9/11 is still a sensitive issue, even when we have movies and documentaries that practically reenact it. :rolleyes:

I absolutely love that storyline, and especially that scene! I haven't gotten to that episode yet... I've only watched the first five so far, I'm trying to stretch it out over the week but it's getting hard to resist.

I personally can't wait to hear the commentaries... but I'm planning on watching all the episodes first, then going back to turn on the commentary.

Did anyone else notice that "The One With Ross's Step Forward" is titled "The One With the Creepy Holiday Card" on the DVD? That was its working title until the script was rewritten. It's correctly listed as "Ross's Step Forward" on the box and when you turn on the captions. Guess it was a goof.

I finished the set last night (I'm pathetic, I know). All I have left are the commentaries, which I'll listen to tonight.

Also, from what I saw of the Friends of Friends featurette, does anyone else get the impression that Teri Garr didn't enjoy her stint on "Friends?" She seemed really standoffish about it, rolled her eyes during some parts, and never actually said anything complimentary during the whole thing.

I always wondered what happened to Phoebe Sr., who I thought could have been a good guest character now and then, but I guess we have our answer now. Teri Garr must not have wanted to come back for more episodes.

After listening to all three commentaries, I have to say I liked the "Rachel Has a Baby" one least. Most of what was said wasn't particularly insightful or interesting, except for a few things like Rachel's mom was originally supposed to make Rachel think she'd end up alone, not Janice, and that Cliff was supposed to be Phoebe's love interest into season 9 instead of Mike.

The "Rachel Tells Ross" and "Videotape" ones were good though, and hearing them talk about the edited scene at the detention room made me even madder that it wasn't included (yet the UK gets it on their DVDs :mad: )

Well I'm almost done with it. I'm on the third disc right now. I forgot how much I really enjoyed season 8. I mean, I loved all 10 seasons but towards the end some weren't as good, but I think season 8 was definitely a step up from 7, and maybe even 6. I watched the Friends of Friends and I agree that Teri Garr really didn't seem like she was enjoying her Friends stint all that much. She seemed very....well I guess the word you used, "Standoffish" is as good as any. Wonder what the deal is there. And I LOVE Debra Jo Rupp. She's so funny. I got so tickled at how in awe she was of the Friends people. The gag reel was of course hysterical, and seemed a bit longer than the last 2, which is definitely a good thing. :) Haven't listened to any of the commentaries yet, but I will as soon as I finish with the episodes.

Can't wait for Season 9!

Season 8 was a great season. It was definitely better than season 7 and maybe season 6. Of the last five seasons, it was clearly the best.

I can't wait for season 9 either. That season started off really strong too, but was running out of steam toward the end.

Yeah, season 9 was really awesome the first half or so, then it got pretty dire there toward the end. And the episodes in season 10 were hard to really judge because so many of them were devoted to tying up all the loose ends. But it was still a pretty good farewell season.

Somewhere around when Rachel moved out of Ross's apartment and Phoebe and Mike broke up, it lost something. The episodes after that, except for a few, weren't that good.

Season 10 was hit-or-miss for me. Most of the first half is mediocre, but the second half is much better. Plus, that second half has one of my favorite episodes from the later years, "The One Where the Stripper Cries."

Damnit, I have yet to try Joey's Bamboozled trivia game on the new DVD's....

The Bamboozled game is hilarious. I love how when you spin the wheel, instead of a sound effect, it plays the audio clip from that episode of Joey imitating the wheel spinning.

It gets to be a tedious game after awhile, though. Much like the "real" Bamboozled, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

I love the Bamboozled game! I agree it doesn't make sense but in the episode it's hilarious! I love how much Chandler gets into it. I myself haven't seen any of the episodes from 9 or 10 because I don't get reception around here. So I got hooked after buying Season 1 on DVD. I NEED MY FIX, BRING ON SEASON 9!
