View Full Version : NYC Marathon
What a glorious day to watch thousands of people run!
It was a beautiful spring like day here in Gotham for the big marathon, and yours truly was there to watch all the fun.
A few of us intrepid west siders hike it on up to the upper east side to watch the action on 1st avenue, the home of the Gaf East, sister bar to my local watering hole The West Side Gaf.
We enjoyed a few bloody marys and an occasional mimosa and caught a glimpse of our friend Neil as he whizzed by.
We then hightailed it across town to Central Park where we spotted him again as he entered the park for the home stretch to the finish line.
After a few more drinks at the Gaf East, where we rubbed elbows with some cute upper east side preppy gals, my roomie and I headed over to the Emerald Inn, an old school Irish bar on 69th street to congratulae some more runner pals enjoying a drink after thier run.
Did any other New Yorkers watch all the fun?
;)
robyrob 11-07-2004, 08:03 PM meh - watching people run makes me feel tired.
and hungry, I'm gonna go make me a hoagie :)
Ewan's My Man 11-07-2004, 08:36 PM omg, my cousins just ran a marathon in baltimore a few weeks ago
they still were walking like 80 year olds days after it, they finished the marathon, crying, linked arms, saying "hail mary's"...awww, sisters ;)
but yea, it did not sound like a fun experience
Michael [hXc] 11-07-2004, 08:38 PM speaking of marathons and running, how long does it take you guys to run a mile? last year i ran one in 7:27:p

*shrugs* I ran two in 16:47 for field hockey tryouts, but I don't believe that it was really two miles, who knows?
It all depends when I run it, if I'm training I can get 8 minutes or so, if I'm not...eh...it's not pretty.

Eh, I did it once in the low 8 minute range. I had a couple friends that did it in less than 6 minutes.

you can run 2 miles without stopping? When I ran a mile the first time (2 years ago) I felt awful after it and I was hobbling the next day. But the second time it was better:D

Not right now could I, I haven't run more than a mile since I started playing goalie, but I've ran up to three miles straight.
Sargent Stewie 11-07-2004, 08:51 PM I noticed when the runners were at the verrazano bridge and Neptune avenue because my grandma lives in Neptune avenue across the park and go visit her a lot.

The most I ever ran was 2 and a half miles, and that was about 1 and a half years ago. I wasn't timing myself so I could do it more easily.

Cashodeen 11-07-2004, 10:06 PM You took part in the big event much like I would have TJL! Sounds like it was fun. ;)

In my more spry days I could run a mile in about 6:50. I always wanted to get some more time off of that, but then my athletic days took a hiatus (which is still going on I might add, lol).
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 11-07-2004, 10:23 PM It took me about 15 min. to 'run' the mile in middle school. I didnt even do a full mile though, I only did 3/4. And I didnt run all of it either. I jogged and then stopped when everyone had finished the mile and I didnt wanna feel stupid. That was in 8th grade. HS I only needed to take gym for a year (11th and 12th) so when those days came, I just skipped it.
Janet McFarland 11-07-2004, 10:29 PM I have to run in gym.. I'm not sure how long it is.. I usually get 4 minutes and something seconds.. so I'm guessing what I run in school isn't a mile

We take gym every year, every other day. I like your way better.

Haha I agree  Like all those kids who get in front of you, and they always get the better time, yes I'd like to smack them over the head too

We take gym every year, every other day. I like your way better. Yesss. Well, you need 1 credit for it, so you can either take it for the whole year and be done, or take it twice, one for one half of the year and the rest any other year. I took it junior year, and then when I was a senior I took fitness and nutrition instead, so I got lucky.:D

It doesn't bother me when people get in front of me, but last week these 4 girls had their arms linked and they were all walking and doing cheerleader moves and it was holding everyone up :grr: people started pushing them out of their way because they couldn't tolerate it.
Janice 11-08-2004, 11:17 AM Sounds like a fun day. Good weather for it too. I never miss the Boston Marathon.... on tv. ;)
