Just another damn day. Only kids are more whiney when they don't get every single God damned thing they wanted. Meh. Can we skip Christmas this year?

Christmas, for the most part, has lost its meaning for me. I used to get into the spirit in October. Since losing my family, it's just memories and missing them. I go through the motions, but inside, that's how I feel. I can't even listen to Christmas songs anymore.

My family gets together to celebrate but it does feel empty to me now.

I like Christmas better than Thanksgiving.. on Thanksgiving we always go to my aunt's house and it sucks.. we have to listen to my aunt's gay boyfriend.. my loser older cousin.. and my bitchy teenage cousin.. oh yeah.. fun fun fun :rolleyes:

Christmas, to me, means two weeks parole from prison. And being able to watch episodes of Guiding Light from 1983 because CBS doesn't run brand new episodes on Christmas Day...

To me, it means the birth of Jesus, but it also means that I sink deeper and deeper into depression. I used to love Christmas, but now I look forward to the day it's over until the next year. I just don't look forward to it anymore.:( :crying:

same here. i get seriously depressed around the holidays. i was very suicidal for a long time last winter, and ironically it started exactly on thanksgiving. i stayed in my room the whole day and cried and slept and i attempted suicide a few days later. feeling that way is just part of christmas for me though and i don't mind it, if that makes any sense at all. last year when we went christmas shopping at the mall i spent about $150 at hot topic because being really depressed makes me feel like dressing gothic to sort of express how i feel.

It makes perfect sense to me, Sarah. It's nice to know that there are people who feel the same way I do. It's nice to know that I'm not alone.

**** Christmas... all it means is my annoying family coming over and singing songs and being joyous while I'm down on the computer drinking all damn night...

What Christmas means to me:

-shopping at the packed mall at the last moment getting everyone their gifts
-decorating the tree with all of my ornaments with a warm fire burning in my fireplace
-the wonderful smell of fresh pine
-blasting Christmas music and screaming the lyrics, annoying the hell out of everyone
-my birthday (since its the following day)
-getting all sorts of presents, some I like and some I'd gladly return
-throwing snow at my friend Nick until he gets pissed at me, and then he does the same to me
-staying up really late

damn am I the only one who enjoys Christmas

Lights. Lots and lots of lights, pretty decorations, snow and family. As ****ed up as we all are, I have to love them. Wee.

Yeah, sure, I go to church but only because my dad makes me. It's more of a family thing for me than religion...even if that is the base of the whole holiday.

I'm going to decorate my whole room for Christmas, and even put Christmas lights in there and leave them there all year long.

my grandmother buys me a new ornament every year and she also gives me one of her really old ones every year so I am getting my own collection:D

Christmas rules, Thanksgiving too. Thanksgiving is an awesome day, and from there on it just keeps getting better and better until the 25th of December.

Christmas, I look most forward to the lights and decorations. I just drive around all night looking at all the lights and decorations people have. My Dad used to deck out the whole house with lights.. and all over the pool, shed, yard, etc., but last year and the year before we were 'moving' and up here who the hell is going to see them? The bears? Not to mention hes 'not nailing holes all over the new siding!'. Ugh. But yah.. this one house in Plaistow does EVERY side panel and its so bright. They only do it every other year though since the electricity bill is like, well over $500 when they do it.

Last year, My Grandfather was hospitalized just before Thanksgiving and died around Christmas. His funeral was December 23. I didn't enjoy Christmas last year and I won't be this year. My Grandmother is now in a nursing home because her Alzheimer's is really bad now. Both of my Grandparents lived next door to me all of my life, until last year. I knew them everyday of my life. Holidays were awesome because of them. We celebrated them at their house.

I'm sure eventually I will warm up to the Holidays again, but I'll need time to heal and lots of it before I do.

Christmas for me, is when the family gets together; I usually travel north to San Francisco and spend Christmas with my parents and my brother and sister-in-law. Of course, I love receiving presents, but I think what makes this holiday special is seeing my family, and spending time in S.F. which is one of my favorite cities:D

Since one of my pets died a few years ago the meaning of Christmas has changed for me. I'll still give family and friends a few ideas for gifts, but I don't really care to much for getting lots of presents like I did when I was a whole lot younger. I'm more into the spirit of giving this year. I'm thinking of donating blood this year to the red cross or something. I might get into baking some Christmas cookies as well this year. I also like seeing the Christmas decorations up downtown, even though it's early to have them up. It's not even Rememberance Day yet. I also like the Christmas music they play on the radio, too.

Sure I enjoy because of family,good food and presents.
but I also think it's time to think about all that's happened
during the year,the good and bad things.and then time
for you to start think of the new year that's only seven days
away and I say what can I do to have a better year next year.

I agree about spending time with Family at Christmas, Chad. I really enjoy that because it really DOES feel like we're all closer. Christmas wouldnt be the same without family and friends.

Christmas means the world to me. It's really the only holiday I celebrate and get super-hyped about...aside from New Years, of course. It's when everyone's all caring, giving, and sharing. It's the special opportunity to show those you care about how much you appreciate their presence. It's cold out, but we're all warm at heart. It's a great feeling, and I love it. :) Horray for Christmas!

I believe in Jesus and all that.... but Christmas is about being with family and giving/getting gifts.

Contrary to what many think.... "Santa" and the whole giving/getting gifts thing was established before some random person decided December 25th was Jesus' birthday.
Somehow they blended together, and the whole Santa thing was limited to the 25th.

Anyways, Christmas is definately the best time of the year.
The lights, the music, and the time off from school!! (although this year is only 1 week)

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one bummed out about Christmas.
I used to love Christmas and Thanksgiving and all(well, most) of the other holidays, and that was even when we didn't have as much as we do today. And my view has changed, not because of a death in the family or anything, but it changed after I got married and learned that my monster-..., er, mother-in-law OWNED Christmas, along with every other major holiday that she is around for. She has yet to realize, or care about the fact, that the spouses of her children have families too, and some don't like being relegated to having AFTER or BEFORE-Christmas Christmases(and other holidays) every year just so she can carry on HER iron-clad-have-to-be-there-for tradition so we can all stay up and wait until(or go to sleep for a couple hours just to wake up at) 12 midnight to open presents. No Exceptions!!!
Well, there was the one time when we were having Christmas on Oahu when she tried to get us to wake up our (sick) one-year-old daughter to open presents(what'd I tell you about that no exceptions rule of hers!). I just about told her to go to hell right in front of her whole family. Luckily I didn't have to as my wife had the good sense(and my glaring at her probably didn't hurt either) to stand up to her this time and tell her we were NOT going to wake our daughter up!
But that's how it is with every holiday now. All plans are made around my mother-in-law and her family, and to hell with anyone elses, and that is why I am really learning to hate the holidays. I try to think of the true meaning of Christmas and the like, but it is difficult when your memories of holidays past are being over-ridden by a selfish, control-freak of a dictator mother-in-law who seems to think that the world revolves around her family.
None of the other spouses have ever said anything to her, but I'm sure they have voiced it to their significant others, as I have. Unfortunately they seem to take the "honor thy father and mother" a bit too far I think and don't want to let down their mother, because then she might start talking about her health and put them on a guilt trip. Again! I mean, it might be a little understandable if she were ailing and dying from a terminal illness, but she isn't!
So now I dread the coming of, especially, Thanksgiving and Christmas. And I grow more resentful every year, until pretty soon I'm going to have to say something about it and say to mother-in-law-dearest that we are spending Christmas with MY family this year. Although it will probably mean my marriage if I do, being as how close-knit they all are.
Yeah, it's sad that I am really hating the holidays right now, especially when it's not even the holiday's fault.
