View Full Version : Well, well. Season 4 box art AND disc art inside.
PZelda 11-05-2004, 09:26 AM Looks like they've gone the gold/amber route again.
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2399
LOL...I like how it says "WOODY'S DEBUT" on there. How come S3 never got one for Fraiser's debut?
And for the love of God..
DO WE NEED THE WORDS "SEASON 4" IN THREE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ON THE BOX?? Geez!
I'm happy, but at the same time disappointed. :(
MaydayMalonesGirl 11-05-2004, 11:07 AM It is sort of dissapointing that only Sam, Diane, and Woody are on the cover art. Whatever. The cover art isnt too important... hopefully there's some good special features to make up for it.

I totally agree. Like I said before, I'm disappointed but happy at the same time. And you know Paramount - they always have great extras, so I have no doubt they'll pull through for Cheers S4. :)
Joker85 11-05-2004, 01:37 PM Well, that cover art just plain sucks. But oh well, at least we are getting the DVDs.
barwars 11-05-2004, 02:09 PM GOOD:
It's Coming!!
and, well, they went back to the logo being in Gold. (the red and blue didn't work)
BAD:
Only those three characters?! TOTAL slap in the face to Rhea, George, Kelsey and George. Hell, it sucks for Bebe too.
Yes, we are NOT morons.... we KNOW it's Season 4.... tell us once and we can be happy.
And the "Season 4 - Woody's Debut" thing is only a sticker, I think.
tiff7 11-05-2004, 02:21 PM WHO-HOO!!!!!! It's about time there was cover art for season 4!!!!!! :))
Tiff7
Have a gr8 weekend y'all!!!! :D
Chambers 11-05-2004, 04:45 PM Like all of you said...ONLY THREE CHARACTERS?? God.
Well, at least they went back to amber.
tiff7 11-05-2004, 05:01 PM What do the pix on the dvd's look like? I c Sam but none of the others. I luv the box, i think amber is a beautiful color, though we do need Frasier, Lilith, Carla, Cliff & Norm on the cover. What does the back look like?

I don't know - the above pic is the only one available in the link that I also posted.
You share your sentiments with everybody else in this thread. I'm disappointed that the rest of the crew was left out on the cover. :( But - I'm sure that if they do the pull-out thing like they've done with their other 3 seasons, they'll have pics of the characters on the inside. The back should usually have a pic of all the characters...we'll just have to see.
I dunno why they only showed one disc and not the others.
CheersChild4life 11-05-2004, 05:37 PM What!? That's stupid. Only three charectars! At least it's coming!
slackermonkey 11-05-2004, 06:22 PM Yeah, it's disappointing that none of the others made the cover. I hope Lilith makes it at least once (maybe season 10?)
But I'm just glad it's coming. February 2005!!
Moondance 11-05-2004, 06:35 PM All I can say is, at least Diane looks like Diane!!!

Amen.
Also, I completely agree with the previous posts... poor Rhea, George, Ratz and Kelsey, all of them upstaged by Woody!!?Paramount didn't give that much credit to Frasier on S3 and he deserved it far better than good ol' Woody (IMHO).
The extras so far have been rather poor, I think. They couldn't even fill a shot glass. Hope the extras in S4 are longer and contain a few more interviews than previous seasons.
Excellent news, though. February 2005 can't come soon enough!
slackermonkey 11-05-2004, 08:28 PM Well, in all fairness, these episodes were filmed 18-22 years ago (seasons 1-4), so I imagine it'd be hard to find good stuff in the Paramount vaults (or wherever) to put onto these DVDs.
Still, we should have gotten more gag reels, and they could have at least included that 1983 cast interview in its entirety instead of little clips of it.
ChambersVsMalone 11-06-2004, 01:47 AM Well, like you all said, only those three on the box? That's strange.
But still, yay, I'm so excited it's coming! :)
slackermonkey 11-06-2004, 02:04 AM I just realized... if these are supposed to come out three months apart (according to pavanbadal in the TV on DVD forum) we should get S5 in May, S6 in August and S7 in November... which fits nicely with what Paramount told us.

So far we've always gotten one in May.... I hope this is true.
Just to think we'll have the whole series in just about 2 years.

That's less than I figured!
Brian Damage 11-06-2004, 02:12 PM I wouldn't feel sorry for the other castmates not getting on the cover, I am sure they are getting paid a small fortune.
slackermonkey 11-06-2004, 03:38 PM Do they even get royalties for syndication?
Moondance 11-06-2004, 03:41 PM Originally posted by slackermonkey

I would think so, unless they were signed off to Paramount.
DianeChambers87 11-06-2004, 08:24 PM I love it! It has the two most important cast members, and woody who is introduced..... hehehehe:D I'm satisfied...

Holy crap am I behind! I still need to get season one... but I'm poor so I'm waiting until Christmas! ;)
tiff7 11-19-2004, 02:01 PM I'm asking for season 4 for my b-day (the dvd comes out 2 days be4 my b-day!!!) :)
Have a gr8 weekend y'all!!!!!

P.S. Please post the back cover & what the disks look like (I c a pic of Sam & 1 of Carla, but who's on the other 2 disks?
slackermonkey 11-19-2004, 06:34 PM Well, considering Paramount hasn't released any new pictures of the set, it'd be awfully hard for us to post them. You'll just have to be patient.
spunkygirl 12-09-2004, 11:31 AM http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2560

Chambers 12-09-2004, 12:55 PM Holy crap. No extras?
This blows.

It does, but that's Paramount's new practice I guess, even Charmed one of their most wanted DVD's won't have any extras at all
barwars 12-09-2004, 04:08 PM Certainly does blow.
Especially considering every season up to this point has them.
Chambers 12-09-2004, 04:09 PM Can't believe they're doing this to both Cheers AND Frasier.
Hate mail, anyone??
tiff7 12-09-2004, 04:09 PM This blows is right-I really want bonus stuff on the dvd's!!!!! :(

No offense but I would say you guys have been lucky to even get extras on the releases that you did, none of the shows Paramount is about to release will have any extras :)
ChambersVsMalone 12-09-2004, 04:19 PM OMG that's terrible. How unAmerican of them. lol.
I'd definitely write some hate mail. ;)
They're just lucky I love season 4 and want it anyway. It just seems weird to stop with the extras after they've been doing them. Warner Brothers always puts such good extras. :(

But it still doesn't justify it. If Paramount took the time for the other seasons, they should have done it with this.
And anyways.... Cheers and Frasier are their most important series.
slackermonkey 12-09-2004, 05:37 PM I think to them, Spongebob Squarepants has more importance.
No extras? You suck, Paramount. (Although thanks for bringing the shows onto DVD in the first place.)

slackermonkey 01-22-2005, 08:26 PM I absolutely can't wait. TV Land has been playing season 4 reruns lately, and it's taken all my willpower not to watch any of them. I haven't seen this season in so long and it's one of my favorites.

I agree. :) I'm a little dissapointed that there will be no special features included in this season set, but it doesn't really matter. Seasons four and five are the absolute best.
slackermonkey 01-22-2005, 10:20 PM No special features really doesn't matter to me. I love Cheers, but it's not one of those shows I'm such a die-hard of that I absolutely need stuff like gag reels, commentary, etc. I'm just glad to have the uncut episodes.
tiff7 01-27-2005, 05:03 PM 5 days til season 4 is out! :)
Tiff7
ChambersVsMalone 01-31-2005, 08:18 PM I got my Season 4 today! I pre-ordered it off Amazon a few days ago. I was suprised it came today when it isn't tehnically released until tomorrow. But I have heard a lot of people saying they get it early with amazon. That's where I'll shop from now on. ;) And I even selected the free shipping, which is the 5-9 day one, and it STILL came before lol. It was telling me the estimated arrival date was Feb 5-9th lol. I think I really like Amazon. ;)
Haven't watched it yet, but I was excited, so I had to share lol.
barwars 01-31-2005, 08:36 PM I'm suppossed to get it for free.... soon.
I got "Frasier - Season 4" and "Taxi - Season 2" (which come out on the same day), already.... "Cheers - Season 4" should be on its way.
This season of Cheers is the best one, until Season 11 arrives.
slackermonkey 01-31-2005, 10:48 PM I'll be getting mine tomorrow after class, both this and season 4 of Frasier.
I was pissed that I might not have enough for them (despite not having bought any TV DVDs since November) but I got enough just in time.
Sharop 02-01-2005, 01:13 PM Frasier and Cheers Season 4 don't come out until March 28th where I come from (UK.) I'm rather envious that you're getting them already.
I intend to ask my parents if they'll get me the second season of "Taxi" for Easter instead of chocolate (I'm looking forward to that one, Chris Lloyd comes on as a regular) and hopefully by March 28th, I'll have enough money to buy Frasier and Cheers Season 4.
barwars 02-01-2005, 02:55 PM Sorry to bust your bubble, but Easter is March 27th.
Sharop 02-01-2005, 05:53 PM ^ Well, I know March 27th is Easter Sunday, but since I'm off for two weeks (beginning the 24th) - I'm kind of lumping the entire two weeks together as "Easter."
MaydayMalonesGirl 02-01-2005, 06:17 PM I asked my mom if she could go to Target and see if it was there on her way home from work, but she won't. Hopefully I can persuade her to bring me sometime this week...
spunkygirl 02-01-2005, 06:58 PM But it still doesn't justify it. If Paramount took the time for the other seasons, they should have done it with this.

I would say Charmed is too and it's not getting any extras at all.
barwars 02-01-2005, 08:52 PM I would say Charmed is too and it's not getting any extras at all.
But Cheers and Frasier had gotten special features in every other release so far. They just now decided to get cheap.
And that's exactly what they're being.
slackermonkey 02-01-2005, 10:47 PM I got my copy today, as well as my copy of Frasier season 4. Had to take the bus and walk in the rain to do so, but it was worth it. Haven't watched either yet, though. Waiting til just before bed to start them.
Cheers - The Complete Fourth Season Review:
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/cheersseason4dvdreview.html
The Obsolete Man 02-02-2005, 02:06 AM Decent review.
As for the set itself, there's only one bad thing I've noticed about it so far, halfway through disc one...
The first episode of the season looks like complete and total crap compared to all the others.
Don't know if they used an older master for the box set, or if this was from videotape, or what, but it looks bad. Looks more like the New Twilight Zone box set, which were all edited on videotape (and neglected over the years) than the rest of the series.
However, other than that, the episodes are still great, and still look good.
Lack of extras didn't bother me in the least.
However, that notice on the back of the box about the music being changed for home video release has me curious... what was changed? What couldn't Paramount secure the rights to, or just not want to pay for?
slackermonkey 02-02-2005, 02:30 AM I remember reading that the first episode of this season was deliberately shot at poor visual quality to reflect the loss of Coach/Nick Colasanto.
The Obsolete Man 02-02-2005, 02:34 AM Well then, I have no problems with this box set, other than the fact that it made me think my eyes were going bad for about a minute.
tiff7 02-03-2005, 03:10 PM Yeah, i pre-ordered it so it got here yesterday just in time 4 my b-day today! I can't wait to watch it! :)
Tiff7
P.S. In case y'all were wondering where I've been all week, my Internet has been down since Monday afternoon, but I hope to be back online next week (or maybe tomorrow!!!0 :)
barwars 02-03-2005, 06:16 PM I remember reading that the first episode of this season was deliberately shot at poor visual quality to reflect the loss of Coach/Nick Colasanto.
That's pretty cool.
I'm not positive about TVLand, but at least on N@N -- when "Birth, Death, Love, and Rice" airs it is completely unremastered, and the themesong is shown in its entirety. I'm not sure if its uncut, but I've always thought it was cool that they chose this episode to do that.
slackermonkey 02-03-2005, 11:00 PM Yeah, it's the same reason why the episode is unremastered in syndication.
PZelda 02-10-2005, 08:48 AM I thought the same thing as TOM over the same episode.
There was one episode on the second disc- I can't think of the name right now- anyway, it took me FOREVER to load that episode. I clicked to play that episode, and the little wine cup disappeared. It did nothing for a long while (15-20 sec, I think) then it finally faded to black, but it stayed black for like 10-15 more sec. I had to try to fast-forward to get myself unstuck.
I'm just glad S4 is finally out. It took them EIGHT AND A HALF FLIPPING MONTHS to come out with the next season!
On another note, it's hard to believe we're approaching the 20-year anniversary of Nicholas' passing. 1985...
tiff7 02-10-2005, 06:00 PM Hey, all I'm back! for what you said, PZelda-8 months-eek! Season 4 should have been out last year!

I just purchased the Season 4 DVDs and I also noticed that, besides "Birth, Death, Love, and Rice", the first half of "Relief Bartender" looks unremastered, too. Did anyone notice this? I found it odd that only one half was remastered.
However, that notice on the back of the box about the music being changed for home video release has me curious... what was changed? What couldn't Paramount secure the rights to, or just not want to pay for?.
I think the music that was changed for the DVD release is the one featured in "Save the last dance for me". In the dance contest scene, the tune that sounds when the couples are warming up before the competition is different from the one featured in the episode's original run. I'm not sure if this was already changed in syndication.
